It takes a while to get used to the fast pace. I have pulled as many as 5 loads in a day when I was running solo. Juggling trailers is pretty common here.
Be sure you write up any new damage you see. As for tires keep an eye on them. I find low/flat tires every week. Thumping the tires is better than kicking them but a tire gauge is even better. A heavy duty tire gauge, 50 foot air hose, and taking the time to make sure your tires are aired up will save you lots of hassles and down time. 15 minutes on a good pretrip can save you several hours on the side of the road.
Do not count on your fellow drivers Eastern AND Nemf to do this though. Checking tires with a gauge is what separates the performers from the dead wood here.bullthebeerman Thanks this. -
New update.
I went to orientation and it was 4 of us and now it's down to 3 of us.
When I spoke to him this is the reasons he gave for quitting.
No mile, he sat for 2 days in CT and they made him drop and empty in new jersey only to go pick it back up hours later " empty " to go get a load.
His word they don't know what they are doing -
ok it's time for me to vent.
Get this. I'm in Austintown,oh on the 9th Tuesday, so I get a load out of there going to MA about 600 mile give or take. The load delivers on 11th Thursday 7am.
I started that day at 10am thinking Ill stop like around 9pm 2200 hours and get some sleep and make the delivery for Wednesday around 4 or so well Ill be early and get another load heading back to NJ. so I did like 300 mile and got as far as some where in PA at a Loves truck stop, now I getting ready to get some sleep. BAM I get a call at 9pm 2200 hours.
oh I need your help with a trailer "what" ok. I need you to go to the terminal 40 miles from where your at and drop that trailer and take another one 24 mile to a delivery.
Are you kidding me, ok
I get there about 11pm I hook up and leave out to make this delivery, I get to the place at around 12:30am. so now you know I'm driving over my 14hour limit, ok I get there the place is a 24 hour operation sweet, but there's like 20 more trucks waiting to get in. that my luck , well I got in like around 2-3am with none to very little sleep
an top of that I lost my 600 mile load.
Now get this I had to got to a terminal to pick this load up and take it 24 miles and it was to be delivered the day in front. your trying to tell me you couldn't get one of those guys around there to take that load 24 mile. Like I said my first week with a new company is always sweet then it goes down hill.
Well the week has 2 more days in it Ill see what happens from here and Ill let you know. If stuff like this is going to be happening often Ill have to bring back out my resume. -
Repowering loads does happen here. It happens at every company I have read about as well. Kudos to you, bullthebeerman, for being a team player.
The fact that you stepped up and covered a load for dispatch may make the difference in keeping that particuar customer happy. I am sure you have also built up some good rep points for taking care of business as well. Pete (the night dispatcher) is a stand up guy and goes out of his way to help the drivers any way he can.
Give it some time (and patience). Spring time should see an increase in freight and more consistent runs.
What kind of mileage did you get as a solo this week bull? -
I know it sound funny but my pay stub does not match the mile I wrote down, it's more.
2254 is whats on my pay stub.jlkklj777 Thanks this. -
Run out to Ripley NY and go to Royal. Tell em you want to run and they'll run you 84 hrs a week. They do Grape juice and Cummins Motors an run Alabama to Michigan, no NYC and no NE. A lot of NY-PA-AL-MI. Frozen school lunches too. Have KWs with 550 and Automatic.

It looks like Eastern is now hiring owner operators to expand its fleet.
While at North Brunswick this past Thursday I noticed a Frightliner classic being set up with EFW decals parked in front of the shop.
NEMF still has shipments going to California and Florida but is currently utilizing outside carriers to cover this freight. I believe with the inclusion of owner ops Eastern will be able to recapture some of this outsourced freight and use the owner ops to open some new markets on the west coast.
Time will tell if this latest move will strengthen Easterns overall position. -
Hmmmmm.....interesting; i know when i was with NEMF they did have some O/O's running linehaul.

Hi I'm the new owner op and the reason I joined eastern is all the threads I've read jllk wrote. Sorry if I got your handle wrong. I live in jersey and been driving for 24 yrs. I know of eastern for a long time. I thought about joining for awhile. Just came on to see if there was anything new. Started thursday night. Took a load to grove city,oh. Then went to sharonville,oh to elizabeth,nj. Nothing today so I'm home to take 34.
