Well I didn’t mention the 2.26 a mile load back to MI from PA. Meh. I’m kind of on ice cream until September, but we should be done with the east coast for a while. (There’s just so many people out there. Just thinking about all those cars on the road all go to a home somewhere at night mind-boggling..)

So we delivered one full day early.

Now we're getting loaded one full day early. $5 and change on 312 miles that delivers 16 miles from the casa.

Reminds me of when we short hauled unicorn farts out of Southern Oregon and Connecticut.

Woof. Thanks to a slow receiver on Monday I had to give back my reload and boy did that screw up the whole week. We ended-up in the Texas Valley and boy everything was flying off the board within 2 minutes of posting. Produce loads $1.80 per mile back to Chicago, $2 to the east coast and $1.50 to the west coast. I was talking to a few brokers and they said they had a terrible produce season and it was dead. My driver even mentioned he's never so little truck traffic down there.

One of my drivers is leaving in August and I'm going to have an open truck. It's tempting to lower the pay per mile and kill the sign-on bonus but I'm sticking to my thought you pay for what you get. I will be more selective for sure and let the truck sit, with these rates, if I don't find an excellent driver. That crap wasn't fun today. I ended up with a load going 245 miles for $900 than a reload out of the same receiver for $700 on 145 miles. I'll bounce home 400 miles if I have to after that.

Called on a Load today. 46 mile DH. 155 miles loaded. Paying $1050. It’s 3:00 and Shipping cuts off at 4:30. I explained I have a 2”x 4” hole in my Trailer floor, and don’t want to risk damaging his reputation with his Customer. I say give me a half hour, I’ll try to patch it up, meanwhile go ahead and try to cover the Load if you can. I understand. I call back and tell him I can’t get it fixed in time. He says he covered the Load. I say good. We’ll work together in the future. So I start looking at the board. Landstar has it posted. I call, he says picks up tomorrow, delivers straight through, pays $700. I tell him I’ll think about it. Call original Broker. Ask if Landstar took the Load? Yep! I say well he’s got it on the board for $700. Just thought I’d let you know, in case he doesn’t have permission to co broker it. Nope he doesn’t, he claimed he had an empty Landstar Truck available. BUSTED!!!! Lol. I love it.!!! I mention that they’re notorious for doing it. Landstar doesn’t seem to care, or at least looks away. The Broker was mad. So I got the Load. Picks up tomorrow morning. No talk about the floor. Now I need to fix it good enough, till I get home and fix it properly. I love it!! I was trying to make the trip today. Then come back and Load a long (cheap) weekend run. Just trying to make as much gross revenue and keep the average per mile rate up. I’m always 100 honest and upfront with Brokers. Much better that way. No surprises. This time it paid off well.

That is good work you did. I always want to be honest, upfront, and dependable when I am out. If I had seen the same thing I would had given the broker a heads up as well.
