This makes no sense to me.
Number 1. The fire departments have made the move toward EMS on their own. Our fire department was not involved in the EMS until 2 years ago. There was a separate agency that the fire department allowed to use the fire house. All of the members of this agency were for the most part fire department members. The trustees did not want to make the move toward it.
There were say maybe 15 fire calls last year. There were 400 medical calls which also include auto accidents.
May not seem large to most people, but the population involved is well under 10,000.
We have had two medical calls and a fire call at the same time.
I know of a fire department to the south of us that charges for their ems calls for non residents.

Yes, I as well am aware of the protocols that departments take to run a Fire Department or EMS department. Nothing really to understand, I don't disagree with EMS charging for EMS, I do however disagree with Fire Departments charging for calls. EMS usually charges only for Transportation to Hospitals and only will summit a bill for you to summit to insurance companies. I don't feel this is a bad idea, however if you have no insurance most departments do not bill or make you settle the bill. Also I know of Fire Departments who will charge for Repeat false alarms mostly which too isn't a bad thing. I too until just recently was volunteer for a Fire Department, have been since I was 19 years old for several different Departments. Like a truck that can't pump water, you take her out of service. I need a knee replacement so I too myself out of service.
What I thought was sick and don't agree with, was the charging someone who calls 911 $300 just to ask for help. I was merely saying that how can you charge for this service when there are times when you call for help no one comes. SAD BUT TRUE! -

Being on the road all of the time, if we have a medical emergency, and must call 911, we will ALWAYS be a non-resident.
I wonder if this would be adjusted for when billing a non-resident for services??

Someone pulls a gun at me in my vehicle, I would run them off the road.
Job loss? There is always other jobs, I had no problem ever getting a job. -
A stopped target makes a much better target than a moving one. Now you'd be dead too. -
As for this POS cali town charging $400 for 911 calls for non-residents.
Um 911 is now the DE-FACTO emergency number nation wide!
You gonna pay all the other departments (again nation wide) the advertising fees?
Town's got a population of under 10k, sheesh, just tell Maybele that Gus the drunk's gotten into the sour-mash again and Russell can take him to the pokey. -
I agree, especialy if he fired at the cab.
