That’s a tough disease to watch a love one suffer through. My mom suffered with Alzheimer’s for four long years. The woman I knew was gone four years before her death. Hopefully you can get down to see her before her passing.

Prayers Brother. It’s tough when parents get to be elderly with health issues. Like yourself, they moved heaven and earth to get me home a few times and kept me home with no questions asked. We gripe and moan about this business, but in the end, how they come to the plate when it’s absolutely necessary is what counts. Mom, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless during this time.

    EI,

I am so very sorry to hear about your mother. My heart and prayers are with you for her comfort. What a terrible thing for you to go through not being able to be near her at this time. Hopefully Abilene comes through for you. Keep your spirits up and good luck to you and yours. My mother went through the same thing and it was not easy.

Well, it seems the universe had other plans. Mom passed away this morning around 4:00am. My brother called me this morning around 8:00am to share the news.

Alzheimers is the Devil's own business for certain, but its one consolation is that you have plenty of time to adjust to the inevitable. As runningman said above, my mom has been gone for three years. We've just been waiting for her body to get the message. Indeed, by the time you hit the late stages of Alzheimers, you're actually hoping for them to pass. The strong, vibrant woman who raised two kids by herself wouldn't have wanted to live like that, and both my brother and I agree that it's more of a relief than anything that she doesn't have to anymore.

Nonetheless, no matter how ready you may think you are, no matter how much you've braced yourself for it, it's still tough to actually hear the words.

Gentlemen, your well-wishing has been truly appreciated. I am grateful that I can count you folks among my friends.

    Thoughts and Prayers my friend.

It’s a tough time to adjust to the new reality but like you mentioned, her body is just catching up at this point.

If you need to talk or vent, please take the opportunity to reach out to someone. It’s a very lonely lifestyle we have chosen to live but you know there are folks in this thread willing to walk with you a bit down this path.

and if you are a man of Faith, know she is now in a better place and will be reunited soon.
