Hey guys im new to the forums and i hope you guys can help me figure this out!
i have a 2016 volvo vnl 630 with a d13 engine. 670,000 miles on it, maintenance up to date. Only thing i can say bad about my truck is i have to put 1/2 a gallon of coolant a week during the summer but im suspecting either my injector cups or egr are the culprit for this. I drain my air tanks daily and minimal amounts of moisture comes out of the tank which i believe to be normal. My big issue is that yesterday i picked up a 39000lb load of cooking oil on a jb hunt trailer (hjbt) and my trailer brakes started smoking and cause a fire on all four trailer brakes and popped 4 tires. I didnt think there was anything wrong with my truck until i started pulling another jb hunt trailer and those brakes started overheating and one tire popped on that trailer due to the excessive heat(rear right trailer brake overheated and popped tire). I checked my air lines and they all seem to be working fine, i even changed them just in case but i just want to know if there is anything else i have to check in case my truck is the issue because i dont want this happening again. I know jb hunt trailers are junk because people dont take care of them but having 2 trailers go through the same issue has me almost believing my truck is the issue.
please help!!
thanks

Above is a link to the second time i had trailer brake smoke -
How would the truck being causing the issue? When you pull the trailer brakes do they stay closed on the trailer or are they released? Do you have a trailer brake where you can test it only to see if they are working correctly? Was trailers pulling hard like the brakes where still pushed in?
-
I always do a regular tug test and a brake tug test on all the trailers i use and everything seemed to be fine when i picked up the trailers in both instances

Sure it was not wheel bearing in the trailers and not the brakes?
-
i had to open up the brakes on the trailer all the way using that bolt on all sides in the second instance just to get home -
Im pretty sure it was the brakes because when the roadside guy came over to change the popped tire at 3am last night i saw that the brake pad was completely shattered on that side and it looked like it was due to the heat

I would guess that the trailers are the problem if you had to back the brakes out. I assume you have enough air to release the brakes or is that not the case?
-
I had enough air to release the brakes but to get home i mostly used my engine brake just in case because i was only 1hr away from home. I had a mechanic check my truck just in casee but he was unable to find anything wrong with it so i just wanted to ask through the forum in case anyone else had an idea what i could check on my truck because i dont want jb hunt to try saying my truck is the issue because of 2 back to back road services hours apart
Siinman Thanks this. -
I would be 100 percent on the trailer if your air is releasing the brakes.
