    Hello ya'll!
I got my class A in Indiana in 2012.
I relocated to Michigan in 2018 continuing with my class a. I just moved to Virginia and got my class a here also. My license has never lapsed, revoked or suspended.
I am a bit confused about Virginia's air brake endorsement. I never heard of such a thing in Indiana or Michigan.
Will I have to retest? Written and or driving?
    Thanks in advance!

There is no such thing as an air brake endorsement. There is an air brake restriction is not tested in a vehicle with air brakes though.

first, i really find it hard to believe that with a CDL from ANY state, you did not have an air brake endorsement for a class A...???

the CDL came out in 1992 i believe, cuz mine had to be FedEx'd to my employer, when i was in Ohio.

it'll most likely be a written test, and most likely a skills test. (not necessarily a driving test).

your best bet is to either go in person or call the VA DMV...

well, i looked it up, so maybe not a skills test

How do I get an air brake endorsement in Virginia?

To drive a vehicle with air brakes, you must pass the air brake component of the Virginia CDL knowledge test. The VA CDL air brakes test consists of 25 questions, and you'll need at least 20 correct answers to pass (80%). The test covers the information found in the air brakes section of the Virginia CDL Manual.

Yes, there was a written test originally. Air brakes were also part of the driving test originally but I have never had an endorsement or restriction. I agree with your Dmv suggestion, which I will do. There is alot of knowledge here. I thought I would tap it.
    Thank you friend!
