    Happens all the time ...

My last year OTR I had about a dozen drivers approach me for a ride from truckstops - after being left out with no way home.

Don't remember most of their stories, I think one was arrested and they took the truck away B4 he could post bail - but most of the others just had some bad breaks.

That's why you always need to keep a wad of cash with you for the unexpected.

I know a lot of drivers don't have sympathy for those "work for room and board" type drivers and companies - can't say I blame them. At least sites like these can let people know about some of the harsh realities out there.

Hang up driving because of what is on the DAC / USIS........
I think not the big companies will hold your DAC / USIS as gospel but the good companies will see the DAC / USIS for what it really is ......
DAC /USIS holds no water with the real Truck Driving Companies.....
If you are a steering wheel holder then DAC / USIS is gold!!!
Solution do not become a steering wheel holder or work for a company that produces them !!!!!

I have been reading a lot of "horror" termination stories lately...I am just
appauled what these trucking compaines are doing these days...they
fire you for something so silly and stupid, hang you out to dry 1000 miles
from home, then leave you with a neg dac report...

I know 10 years ago when I was in trucking..I would have thought these
posts would have been bogus...but you really do not know the real
story from drivers, is it truth, or fiction...

But after seeing lots of these "BS" termination stories, why the
hell would I or anyone even want to step into a truck again.

Your MVR/DAC is your future, and when these compaines
get rid of you for something dumb, they do not care what
they leave on your dac at all...

"I got permission to borrow the company car, I returned
late, and was canned, and they put it on dac...ture/false?

I went to orientation, I got canned for missing a gear...
true or false? (a company training school) So rather then
training him, it was better to let him go) then they report
    it to dac!

I am just appauled what I have been reading lately...

Being fired over a simple log book violation..?

In my day it was nothing, now its just common practice
to fire you for something simple, and leave a negative
    report on your dac...

zentrucking and Red Sovine Thank this.

TA has a GPS system in every truck they know with in 100 feet if you move i recently was terminated from there employ for saying a customer was being an ### over the qual comm albeit my second offence first time i said hell no i wasnt giving up a 900 mile load to cover an 80 mile load for someone that ran out of hours TA isnt a terrible company the pay on average is fair, comparitably, equipment is descent (though slow)however the bonus program is almost unobtainable.i did receive 2 log vialations for moving my truck when in all actuality it was mechanics that did it not me i was showing off duty they showed truck rolling there mistake did also show up as a 11/14 hour violation i spent 2 days clearing that up my FM was leann Taylor I would strongly advise against her as an fm the woman can be a bit of a challenge to comunicate with... miles kinda stunk at the end anyway but prior to that i made fair money about 4 to 600 a week after expenses... i will say this i have been in the bus. for ten years ive worked for 3 companies USA truck Jb Hunt and TA Ta was the best of the bunch but then that really isnt saying much.... Driver beware go in with eyes wide open

ON a personal note the industry as a whole has become completely ludicrous to the individual considering trucking as a career I strongly advise against it... I myself have left the industry....

And another option is to find a UPS store and ship your gear back to the house. I used to run a branch back when it was Mailboxes Etc. and it's actually a really cool way to get your luggage to a resort hotel (or summer camp) ahead of you.

Considering the original post was in 2008, THREE YEARS ago, i am sure he is not still sitting there waiting for some ideas on how to get home.
