Nope. Last I checked, the lower corners being secured to the deck were the requirement, and then sufficient WLL securement, so 3 straps over the top (depending on weight) was sufficient. That's the way I usually hauled them.

The corners being secured "flat" to the bed is the important aspect...as if you think about it, the only thing holding those things on an intermodal chassis that I use to run also, from the railroad yards were 4 corner locks to keep it on the vehicle. The latches on those were supposed to be zip tied to keep them from coming loose in transit, but lots of lazy people didn't do that...and that's why we get to laugh at them when it happens. Zip ties are cheap insurance. :)

Flatbeds just need that extra (corners or straps) to contain it from moving around off the deck and keep the corners in contact with the vehicle. Here's the relevant cite:
Securement of loaded intermodal containers transported on vehicles other than container chassis vehicle(s).
Reading the related cite always calms my nerves. :)

I carry a ladder. From pulling in to pulling out was 57 minutes. I secured both top and both bottom corners front and back as I didn’t want to take any chances.

Funny part was they were going to put the container right to the front edge of the trailer because “that’s what the previous trucker wanted” and assumed I wanted the same. I cannot imagine how he secured it well, what an idiot.

Hauled a lot of auto parts and computers in sea cans, always wanted flush to rear. Back into a dock, just like a door swingers. Take the empty to a drop lot.

He's not necessarily an idiot, Kshaw0960, especially if he was securing with straps over the top, after running his chains on the lower and pulling the front one either down or to the rear and putting a binder on it on the side or across the front, and same with the back. Again, the bottom corners being secured down to the deck, is the priority per the regulations, which he could have met with the way I mentioned it, in addition to straps over top.
