This was a reload so we didn’t know what we would be getting when we left Iowa with Musco lights headed for Georgia. We ended up picking up 5 coils totaling 44,000 lbs but only had 4 coil racks so two were loaded side by side and all butted together front to back.

The three single coils never budged, and the chains were like steel bars all the way from Marietta, Georgia to Davenport, Iowa.
The double row I had to tighten every time we stopped. When I pulled into the yard, I had a veteran trucker come over and look at the way we secured our load. He pointed out what I had somehow missed all the way back every time I tightened the load. The gap between the two coils loaded next to each other had slowly diminished from about 10 inches to 1 inch. Every time I tightened the four chains on the double coils the coils slowly moved together, causing slack. I would rather never put two side-by-side again, but if I do, I will be putting dunnage in the middle to keep them from coming together.
hopefully this helps some other new driver’s picking up coils for the first time I like us

Any thing side by side on a flat will try to work together. They have three options with me: put the stuff touching together, blocking in between, take the #### off and someone else can haul it.
