I’ve had my license since April of 2015. I got hired later that year with a flatbed metal hauling company as a relief driver for my first job. I couldn’t back up to the small mom n pop welding shops to save my life during that time so they put me full time in the bob tail. I ended up leaving that job for a concrete mixer job. I had fun doing that for a few months later that same year than I hurt my self and resulted in a herniated disc with sciatica. I took 2 years off of driving. In 4/17 I started working for a dump truck company. Was hauling Class B size trucks for 3 years. I left that to do tractor trailer commodity driving local for 4 months and the money wasn’t enough ($18 hourly no OT) I stopped driving trucks around 1/2020. Covid hit 2 months later and I started doing doordash and was making 160$+ a day during that time now It’s died down. I want to return to trucking but as you can see above I didn’t know what t f I was going after. I need guidance and a mentor. If someone on here would be kind enough to point me the right direction I’d appreciated it. I want tractor trailer local. There’s this indian company in my area who’s a amazon partner and they’re doing 14 hr days. Idk if that’s too much to get back into after being inactive for a while

DO NOT GET A 1099 JOB.

That's the only advice I have for you.

F any transportation opportunities at Amazon. Enslavery.

If the Modesto listed in your profile is California, go to the Dot Foods DC on Nickerson Ct, off Whitmore. Walk in the front door and ask the front desk to see Gabe Tanner (I believe he’s still there and transportation is actually in the building on the right, where all those trailers are dropped). He’s the director of transportation, at Modesto. Explain to him your situation and ask him for guidance. If he is able to help you and you can get on with Dot, you’re looking at amongst the best people, money, and benefit package in the industry.

Dot Foods has an excellent reputation. If you are hired there, you're set until retirement.

I know they require unloading trucks and that concerns me for my herniated disc/sciatica. Is it electric pallet jack or strenuous labor?

Read the website, Dot Foods has "no-touch freight" as an option.
    ~
Truck Driving Jobs | Dot Transportation, Inc.
    No-Touch Freight Driver

When driving for DTI, you do not have to throw freight. As a no-touch driver, you will:
*Spend time behind the wheel of a DTI truck
    *Meet other DTI drivers at
    company terminals for turns
*Deliver loads to customers that don’t require you to unload the trailer

Flat Earth Trucker, Numb and BigRam90 Thank this.

DTI isn’t open in Modesto. Any other suggestions? Preferably local

It's a pretty solid argument that you've come to a good place for that.

Lots of really good help here -- some true professionals, who know the game.

What CDL endorsements do you have (if any)?

DTI in Modesto; is it closed permanently? The website shows it's open.
