I beg to differ. I have not ever applied to work at maverick nor will i ever. I noticed that you are a frequent poster but do not list any experience. must read a lot about trucking and give advice to the wannabe's.
I strongly urge that people do not enter this segment of transportation during this economic downturn. I also was grandfathered into my cdl. how about you?
I bet you attended a driving school and have ridden many a bus to that new job and thusly many a bus on the way back home so you are the voice of experience on this forum.
KUDOS.We all appreciate you sharing that wisdom and hopefully someone will indeed benefit from it-

I got a better idea. How about read the post I replied to him on. What did it say? How about I don't know why they let him go, but he did not make the cut. The reason why I left was the economy and the freight. Took a local gig that had junk equipment. Would not fix anything. I went back OTR. Tried another co. Same problem. Slow flat bed freight. I had a 18 speed, triple digit, long nose pete. Good, co, but if I am not making money I will not stay out. No qual comm. No forced dispatch. Just no freight.
Back to maverick. They treated me better than any co I ever drove for. Dead headed me about 10 hours and paid me to go home for thanksgiving. Another time I came home under a load had a water leak at home. No problem. Sent a empty to my house. Took a week off. House got damaged in ice storm. No problem, took off to fix house. Daughter needed surgery. I was there, thanks to maverick. Not too many companies that big that care about drivers. Your safety comes before the load. The people around you their safety comes before the load. Just because they are selective in who they hire does not make them a bad co. In my book it makes them a great co.
doubledragon5, Ops85, scottmart and 2 others Thank this. -
also I have no health problems at all.
not to talk about others but most of my class was my age or older, and a few had high blood pressure and were over weight, thats what I do not get why was I cut.
was not even there more then 24 hours. -
I'll let up but I still think that initially you WERE kicking one that is already down. I apologize if i misinterpreted your original post.
i wish everyone the best of luck that is re-entering trucking or just getting into it for the first time. It is going to be a long row to hoe considering the current economic climate and the current administration's applications to thwart the downturn. -

I have never been layed off or let go from any job. They was good to me as in past tense. Lack of freight. I have to make a good wage too stay out here. I can pick and choose what I want to do. I turned in a 2 week notice. I did good by them, they did good by me. Got me home so I could clean out the truck and I delivered late that night 2 miles from the yard. Took the truck back. Turned it in the next day and they paid for me to get home. How many co's provide a way home for guys that get let go like he did? How many pay them something for going if they don't get hired? Companies pay your way there. How many pay your way home when you quit them? I got paid. Like I said they are a top shelf co. Not everyone can make the cut. No one was put down. He could not make the cut. Again they are very selective. They will even tell you that.
You have made reference to me having little stick time. I too started before the CDL's came out. The year was 1980.
scottmart and Ridgerunner665 Thank this. -
I don't know why they cut you but at least they didn't keep you hanging around for a week and then send you home. They paid you for the day most companies wouldn't even do that
Gary7 Thanks this. -
Sorry things did not work out for you. I am in my third week with my trainer and will be back to test out and get my own truck.
Other companies are hiring. If this is what you want to do, then do not let this bump in the road stop you. If you want flatbeds, there are other compaines out there.
Do not let others dictate what your future is. Press on and do not give up until you achieve it!
God Bless and best wishes!
