I'd LOVE to find a lawyer that will defend me for less than the cost of my plasma tv, laptop computer, or 200$ I carry in my wallet.
Maybe if you've ever had to sit in an interrogation room, you'd have a different outlook on playing the hero over stuff that doesn't amount to very much in the whole scheme of things. -
People with feeble minds always break thing down in terms they can understand. Right and wrong has nothing to do with ego or being a hero, it has to do with right and wrong .... that simple. I know that is hard for some folks to understand. Which is why traditionaly the strong take care of the weak. Not everybody posses the capacity to think in the terms of right and wrong. The greatest thing about the freedom we still somewhat posses in the US is: You have choices. If you choose to let people walk all over you and take what is not theirs, then fine...that is your choice. However, as touch as it is for the weak minded to understand; there are those of us who have worked hard for what we have and choose not to get trampled on and retain what is ours. This concept has been lost here in america. The pussification of "men" in america has been going on for some time. Most fellas are scared of their own shadow and take longer in the bathroom than alot of women. Yet, you still posses the freedom to live life as you see fit. That is why there are soldiers and there are folks who aren't. Because not everybody posses the ability to be a decent person.outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
Maybe I'm misreading your reply, but what exactly are you saying?

You blame a person's sense of doing what is right to be a hero.
One has nothing to do with the other, some people do what is right......while others look the other way and go about their business as if nothing is happening. I couldn't sleep well at night if I were to be in the category of looking the other way and pretending it was ok to let bad people do bad things. But...to each his own. Does that clear things up any? -
Looking the other way & doing what is right have nothing to do with either.
Bad people are going to do bad thing, regardless. I don't just sit by idle and let it happen, but I don't put myself in the position of going in, guns blazing (so to speak).
When one goes in with the mindset of, "the thief is wrong & I'll stop at any cost to prove my point." Lines get crossed, for a better use of words.
Case in point ...
I saw a person stealing my car stereo. I got a good description of the guy, I could have picked the booger out in a line up any time. So, while I (before I got into stuff I'm in now) got closer to not let him get away with what he was trying to do, his co-hort came out from the other side of the parking lot. I was shot three times. My car stereo wasn't worth being shot three times.
If I had it to do over again, I'd have gotten my description & called the cops. But, that is just that (and that kind of) scenario.
Do I live in fear of whomever? Nope. Do I let "them" dictate how I live my life? Nuh uh. However, I have changed some things I do, and how I would do them. It, in no way, has made my life any less enjoyable. In-fact, it's made it 9 times as enjoyable
Another example, if you'll allow me ...
I was pulling into the TA truck stop, in downtown Nashville, TN. I was in my four-wheeler, so you'll have to forgive me. I was going to go in the four-wheeler drivers' entrance. But, there was a group of 4, or 5, bum looking fools. Now, I didn't feel like having to deal with them (asking for money, getting mugged, whatever they wanted to do), I just drove around to the professional drivers' entrance.
So, rather than use either pistol I had on me, or go get the rifle from the car, I decided to make my life just a little bit easier. I've dealt with shooting somebody, before. I just didn't want to do it, again. So, did I go out of my way to avoid "those people?" Probably, in some folks' eyes I did, but I still accomplished what I wanted to accomplish without having to deal with the police (again), the homicide detective (again), or paying out the ying yang for my attorney to show up at three o'clock in the morning, sitting in a jail cell (again), having my wife worry about me (again), and not getting that danged soda I wanted to get.
Anyway, I've rambled more than I cared to. Let me try to get back on track ...
I think you & I are agreeing in a round about way. I'd like to see bad things happen to bad people, rather than the usual bad things happening to good people. But, I am not going to let it happen at my expense. -
I don't find anything wrong with that at all. That is your personal decision. That is what makes you feel comfortable. You have to do what you feel is right. I feel differently and that has nothing to do with "being a hero". It has to do with what I feel is the right thing to do. Every situation is different and warrants a different response. Yet, until bad people fear the good people...nothing will change. To each his own. I am not comming down on you or anybody else for that matter. I was angry that you attribute the way other people choose to handle things as being "heroic", glory hound or an inflated ego. Some people just see things differntly than you, why not just leave it at that? I respect your right to do as you see fit. So why is it so hard to respect the rights of others to do as they see fit and not try to down-play it or bastardize their response to a situation as just trying to play the "hero".
Ridgerunner665 Thanks this. -
I would pop him with a tire thumper

I wonder if there are any stats on the dangers of trucking? Robbery, murder et...?
Animals in the jungle try to attack the weakest target but if they are attacking targets that they know are generaly unarmed it makes for a lot of targets.
Maybe ornamentation classes need to include a session on how to defend yourself against an armed attacker bare handed? That would make some people think about their new "easy" profession. -
