Footnote 6 was to the article on Quartz.
Inside the Quartz article were links to several media reports and a BLS research paper.
Footnote 7 was the title of an FMCSA report, not a link to a PDF.
The Quartz article is clear enough and makes simple enough arguments not understanding those points and not discrediting their info is your choice, not an error in the Quartz article or my points along the same lines. You still have not linked to ANY source and when you demanded info you didn't say it must be a primary source, a govt source, or the opinion of a wino outside your door. I've supported my argument and you've done nothing but complain. You should find the person that told you the internet was full of people waiting to make you happy and get your dang money, or magic beans, back from them. I don't work for you and your unwillingness to do our own research is your problem. Go find the reports from a left-handed Norwegian pickle farmer or whomever has the real info in your magic world.

rates are a signal of many things. If there were a driver shortage since the 1980s when the ATA started making the charge there would be a consistent increase in driver wages since the 1980s over the rate of inflation.

I don't even know what category of total truck drivers is uniform even means. Freight rates are not reflecting consumer demand they are signaling shipper/receiver demand which can be based on consumer demand or other factors like upcoming events. Freight customers are not paying more per load on the spot market now, they were paying a lot more on the spot market 2 years ago when the economy shutdown and those freight rates attracted every mouth breather with a CDL to buy a truck, and haul freight. Now those extra trucks are depressing freight rates and people are claiming driver shortage. The driver shortage is so bad the truck stops are full everywhere every night and truck stops are collecting higher parking fees than 10 years ago, you know like when you really have a driver shortage. The driver shortage is so bad right now newbies with a CDL can't get a job and experienced drivers with more than a few months away from the industry can't get hired, you know like happens in every shortage. I tell you if the driver shortage gets any more extreme the roads may get gridlocked from all of the trucks and their drivers filling up all the asphalt. Virtually nothing supports the "driver shortage" theory except the people that used it as an excuse since the 1980s are still using it as an excuse in the 2020s.

There are too many trucking companies, too many trucks, trailers, and freight for the current number of drivers. Freight salesman have over-promised and tey are blaming drivers for not making their lie a reality. Whoever heard of a salesman, executive, or journalist telling a lie?

There are people willing to murder a stranger for $10k. There is a number more than the current truck driver pay that will attract enough quality applicants to this industry. Just as you say for a million dollars you could put up with the hassles. For every dollar amount some number of outsiders will enter trucking.

As it relates to this thread and your view of a driver shortage: My claim is that you don't know what you're taking about, that you aren't very good at critical thinking, and you aren't very good at comprehending.

I don't have to do research because my evidence is completely provided by you.

Everytime you type you strengthen my point.

I don't think there is a number amount. It ain't the money that's the issue. It's the lifestyle. We gotta friend of the family who got out here on the road. Big time family man.....that's why he got out the industry. He is now a correctional officer. Being with his family everyday is more valuable than any amount of money. Many folks are wired like that. They want the money, but like you said earlier.....within 40 hrs a week and home everyday at 5.

That's that good critical thinking that I keep coming back for...

One minute your waxing poetic about economic philosophy and the next moment you can't understand what differentiates the employment category of truck driver from other categories of employment?

It was at this moment I realized somebody let you outside without your helmet...

    Oh I love it.

One more time for the cheap seats...

"The temperature outside isn't reflecting the heat of the sun, it's signaling the heat of the air which can be based on the heat of the sun or other factors like the heat of the sun."

    Please. Never. Stop.
