I have a 2004 c-15 ser# mxs62100 on the shop floor, ready to install into a pete dump. Problem is wrecking yard let it fall on pass. side, it smashed the waste gate accuator (see attached Pic) turbo is fine, engine has only 40k, local cat rep says i need to buy the whole turbo assy. because accuator is finely calibrated at factory. cost= $1,500 for reman. is there any other options ?? thanks in advance

I would call a different cat dealer before I bought a turbo.

does it still work? I'd blow some air through it to see if it still moves before I even shopped for a new one. Not really much to them (diaphragm and a spring) so maybe just bending the bracket back would be all you need. "finely calibrated" very funny! Their so simple that's why they work.

It may be more smashed than it looks in the pic but from here it looks repairable.

CAT doesn't sell the wastegate actuator seperately anymore. The only way is to find a aftermarket company (like Turbonetics or others) and buy a replacement and then adjust it to your needs. Or you could just run the motor without a operational wastegate and just drive it with care.

If it is beyond repair there are companies that make aftermarket ones for cars/diesel trucks. Some are made to order for whatever pressure spring you want so don't pay Cat for anything.

This one is for the newer dodge pickups (pre-set for 30psi) but is adjustable.

    Turbonetics
(like Pullingtrucker said) makes some parts for Caterpillar so I'd call them first.

Their out there you've just got to do some searching, I'd come up with something on my own before I paid for a new turbo for what should be a <$50 part.

If it is an MSX it should be newer than 04. I think BSX was used until 06. Could be wrong.

Pullingtrucker, so this isnt rocket science then, how do i adjust it to my needs... i know the acuator rod has a threaded clevis/jam nut but what criteria am i looking for ? CAT said its calibrated at factory (i noticed the jam nut/threads have a porcelain (or something like) coating in that area as though they can tell if you tamper w/ it:biggrin_25521:
