Volvo 780 best fuel mileage?

Too fast for 3.42. You need a truck with ratio in the 2's for light weight if you want to run fast. I would run 65 to 68. I run light and only go 68 with 3.08 gears and get low 7's

 

Old thread but.......2015 D13 780 iShift 2:64 rears and I get 7-7.5 running 65-70. I run dry van and keep it as light as possible, most loads 20k or so average.

I do run my APU a lot. I've always wondered how much that drags it down.

I run my truck everywhere. But mostly MIdwest-northwest round trips. Average 75-80k lbs. I don’t use CC because I can overdrive it with my foot. Mostly I run 65. But sometimes 60 or 70 depending on mood or topography. Every month on the 1st. I reset my trip on computer so it shows average 7.9 - 8.2 summer. Winter is somewhere around 7. No idle at all btw

 

Might as well throw out some numbers for mine here as well.
2023 VNL 860 with D13 500 HP 2.79 RAR
Run dry van freight all over light and heavy loads. Been running a few more heavy loads lately and dropped my MPG's from 8.79 to 8.41

 

Someone was on freightwaves newsletter claiming 10MPG over 500K average with the new low rev engine....
I don't think that would be realistic loaded in any trucks.

 

It is pretty common for the D13TC with low 2 RARs doing dryvan.

 

His average speed was 55mph and he always drives with fuel efficient as top priority. That driver can make any truck get 9mpg +

 

There are a few guys doing it in the 9+mpg FB group. They’re very disciplined, though.
