Ha Ha, I had a CHP run past me there on 50 and pull me over and send me back to Sac to 80. My wife was with me and wanted to see that area. He didn't give me a ticket but he would not let me cut thru anywhere... I remember him jumping up on the step and asking, "Where Ya Heading Driver"? I said, "La Crosse, Wi"... He Said, "Not This Way, Your Not!"
That was way back when I first started running Cali. Needless to say, I have not been on hwy 50 with a 53 since.
I have never had much of a problem with any passes or mountains... Donner has been a pain in the last year, just because of all of the construction, but otherwise, its a cakewalk. I run well below Sacramento 99% of the time so I don't get in that area much anyway. -
Turners grade, outside of Mayberry. Locals will not let you get a running start !!!
swervyjoe Thanks this. -
I like sandstone.. lol.. the curve at the bottom going east bound..

set your jake on stage 3.. put it in 6th an let her roll.....
But you are right.. some times all you can see is the lights in the line... -
They are lights..lol.. real lights built in to the pavement... it gets so foggy up there.. you cant see you nose some times.. an i mean the nose on your face..not the truck..lol
-
I think its like on hwy 68 dropping down into Bullhead City out of Kingman... The stop sign/light at the bottom did kinda catch me off guard the first time I went down that grade.

I was riding the dragons tail on the bike one summer an seen a lost truck... now that was scary.. there are signs every where .. but this guy must have been asleep.. No need to try to tell him to turn around.. there is no place to do it.. Don't know if he made it or not.. we set at the bottom for a couple hours before we went back to motel.. but I know he could have check his trailer lights on some of the curves.. figure he ended up jackknifed some where on the hill..
check out some of the pics lol

man what a cluster thru there. those are some messed up pics. -
Like the site says ..it looks like a short cut.. but some of the turns are so tight.. you will take up both lanes..plus both berms.. and still wont have enough room to make it.. I could have swore I seen a sign that said no trucks.. but maybe I was thinking of another road.. but yea..if you want to pratice your tight turning.. go ahead an give it a try.. but take pics for us..

Ha, think I'll pass... I never get to that part of the country anymore, anyway. I have been on some mountain back roads in Cali thou, where I had to take up both lanes to make the curves with a 53... The signs say, Not recommended for trailers over 48 ft but I did have a choice really.
