@loudtom the box I had made if you look is fully vented on all 4 sides (only 1/2 on the front side to protect the control panel)

My last predator drained straight out the bottom so my box has a hole made it ez. The new one uses a drain hose and requires you to tilt the genurator to drain.

I do have a champion 3,500 "quiet" open frame generator at home and quiet it is not compared to the predator 3,500 super quiet

    loudtom Thanks this.

the pic of the cans was just to show where I kept the can when the generator was it the box..

I used 2 1" ratch straps (1 per can) hooked to the frame down under the step up thru the handle around the step 3x then back to the frame. I did this for each can separately. They couldn't move

I did move the catwalk closer to the back of the cab
And slide my hitch back. The closest the trailer can get even in a turn is 6"

Ok, so the trailer comes too close for a tip back box cover.

I figured you strapped the cans down. You mentioned that before and there is no way you'd take off without them strapped.:p I was just thinking if one could leave the cans there and make a step extension so you could still have steps to gain access to the generator etc. Looks like it would be easy to do as your step system is ever so common and has holes already cut into the side plates.

On the driverside their is enough room to mount a extra fuel tank. Would need to be a shallow tank about 20-25 gl. They make a remote fuel tank kit for the predator 3,500. That uses a boat fuel tank (think those red tanks used on outboards)

I used a set of "çhassy Graber" frame mount (Iowa 80 truckstop) rated to 400 lb. For the generator box.

I have another set rated for 200 lb. For the fuel tank and I have the remote fuel kit. Just looking For the right fuel tank and when it slows down I'll take some time off and install everything..including the wireless remote start kit i have.

20 gl will give me 120 plus hrs
25 gl will give me 150 plus hrs

That way around once a week I drop my trailer bobtail over to the gas pump and fill it up...

The plan is to be able to stop put the vent hose out the window and then as needed at the push of a button from inside the cab start/stop the generator and ac. Anywhere for up to 10 days...!!

The run I have now is mon, Wed, Fri so I sit Tuesday, Thursday Saturday and Sunday so right now I'm running it 80ish hrs a week

This is where I'll be mounting the fuel tank

Have you had anyone (DOT) say anything about your fuel storage? I'm wanting to do something similar on my truck, also a '15 ProStar, but I have the EPU. I want the genset just to run my ShorePower. I have the automatic engine start/stop, but the idea is to cut idle time as much as possible, and it's WAY too sensitive. Starts up after 40-45 minutes, even not running the HVAC.

In 2020 I put a Coleman Mach8 15k btu roughneck ultra low profile rooftop on my 379. to power it I have a eu300is in a custom designed box with a drawer slide to pull out the gen for fueling and maintenance.

I reinforced the top of the roof with 5/32 5052 aluminum roll formed to match the radius of the sleeper roof to back wall. the Mach8 is long so it will hang past the back of the roof. to support that I used the same aluminum and made a tail plate with 3 gussets welded to the top plate.

Inside I made a subframe out of 1x2 aluminum rectangle tubing that would span the factory sleeper fiberglass supports(hat channel). The top plate - roof - sleeper supports and subrame are all tied in and fastened with aluminum huck fasteners. It's water tight and bullet proof in my opinion.

With the door shut on the gen box and intake and exhaust ducts open you can't even hear the generator running while standing next to it.

I also put a Micro-air easy start on the A/C unit so I can run the gen on eco mode without the a/c compressor dragging the gen down every time it kicks in. It also got rid of the thud the compressor made every time it kicked on,

The project took about 3 years for me to complete between working - the planning - parts gathering - fabrication and measuring a hundred times so when it actually came time to cut the hole in the roof it would all come together smoothly.

I do have some pics if anyone is interested.

Would love to see the installation, especially the box for the generator.

So what would be the market for the generator box? I have a cnc plasma cutter and press brake. It's my part time side business.
I've been spending some time now and then was this thread gets more replies, thinking about how to build a box that can house a variety of brands and configurations of gas generators, but each time I run into issues figuring out how much work the driver or owner would have to put into moving steps or other frame mount items to make room for the box.
