Yeah but double clutching is what is taught, and in WA it's required to pass. They'll call you out for floating gears.
Some companies won't hire with an automatic restriction.
To those who got into trucking not knowing Shift Stick how long did it take to learn

You're 100% correct that's why I say it's a starting point. Once a student can get the timing down floating double clutching is nothing.

Just relax...it’s as hard as you make it
Don’t overthink it....and if whomever is instructing you isn’t giving you good feedback and advice...that’s on them not you
Unfortunately too many skools are staffed by ineffective trainers....

I think that advising people to NOT try learning a manual before going to trucking school is very bad advice. Yes, shifting a multi-range non-synchro transmission IS different, but spending at least a month in a car or pickup with a stick will at least get you used to remembering to shift, anticipating shifts due to traffic and hills, and remembering to pull out of gear when stopping. Most car and pickup manuals are a good place to experiment with 'floating' gears, too, rather than waiting and learning by grinding your company's Eaton 10-sp to smithereens while you learn....
Rgrace Thanks this.
