Don’t work for foreign owned companies. It’s not worth the risk. Not all are bad but it’s a huge gamble.

 

After the first week and no check, I would have quit.

 

One of these days they're going to pick the wrong guy to screw over.

 

To play devil's advocate. Some companies pay is a paycheck behind, and if they pay every two weeks in could be almost a month before the first paycheck

That said, it should have been clear in orientation of when to expect the first check.

As others have said, move on. It's not going to get any better.

 

Hold onto their truck til you get paid. Although how much is a white Volvo worth these days?
3 weeks and no pay is already 3 weeks past my patience.

 

When I see a company based in Chicago, or the owner has a first name "vlad" I pretty much know it's a slave camp.

 

would this, by any stretch of the imagination, be a 1099 job?
