Wondering why he didn't pull back in the driveway and get as far left as he could, Looks to be plenty of room he wasn't using the first time... Think he would've made it without tearing anything up by doing so.... ???

The amount of times we've had to pay for someone's turf because some driver chewed it up is low, but still one too many.

My guess, his focus was on clearing the sign and not about what would happen next. Its why you see so many torn up batwings on vans and refers. Do what ever you have to do in order to clear object 1, but now you have no room to swing AND are wedged in so you can't just pull out.

If he would have been a little more patient he could have gotten out of there without tearing anything up.

Sometimes it can’t be helped. It could have been minimal this time.

Definitely didn't use those couple feet on the right to help catch the trailer. Getting the trailer even a few feet further back would have made a world of difference!

Taking a second look, I noticed teo things. First it looks like he is already on the second attempt and started trenching the lawn on Try 1. Seocndly, as he passes by the pick up truck, he turns the steers to the right, about 1/2 turn and not for very long.

This is what screwed him. It got the trailer turning faster, which he didn't need, and pointed the drives towards the corner of the driveway. It also looks like he put the steers just a little the right as he was approaching the sign on the blind side, which further screwed him, but the damage was done when he passed the pick up truck. At that point he should have "goaled" and he would have seen he had plenty of space for the trailer to clear the ditch on the far side and a 1/4 to the left would have moved him away from the object on the blind side.

This is one of those backs that you GOAL, move 3 feet, GOAL, move 3 feet, GOAL, etc. Bad sight lines, non standard spacing, and a very limited "flight path" to success.

The other option, which I'm not sure is practical or even possible with this equipment, is dude got the trailer out on the street parallel to traffic. He could have dropped the trailer, got spun around and rehooked. I did that a couple times my first year when I didn't understand the physics of backing and didn't understand just how stupid it is to come out from the side.

Looks like at about the :10 mark is when he needed to start gradually getting back underneath the trailer because at that point he had the sign cleared and would've had some swing room. As it was he was 90° or less and had little to nothing to work with.
