well this has been coming for a long time.
first it was qualcomm setting up a program for companies so you could not read or send messages while moving.
the cell phone thing is just a step to what insurance companies and law makers want to see.
it is just the company getting a head start on it.
if you get into an accident and they see that just before or at the time of the wreck you were on the phone, that will be called distracted driving, and you will be at fault. this little rule your company is stating is just a way to cover their #####. -
I think it is very likely that trucking companies, enforcement authorities and/or attorneys would investigate cell phone call records following a major incident. It's my understanding that the "smart chips" in four wheelers' electronic control systems are currently being read by officials following an accident to determine the speed, brake pedal use, etc. at the time of a major collision. OnStar also reports crash speed and airbag deployment information to authorities according to what I've heard on their radio commercials.

Jeez what did we ever do before those surgically implanted phones showed up You mean they are not implants Funny they sure look like they are stuck somewhere
Oh yeah we dealt with it.You made a phone call when you stopped for a break if you could find a working one. You didn't roam the country side chattering away or sending those insipid messages that you think are so clever
Sign the paper if you want to keep working there, find a new job if you don't.You have the right to own a phone, the company has a right to tell you not to use it when they are compensating you for performing a task.JustSonny and The Breeze Thank this. -
ALL cell phone usage while driving a commercial vehicle will become illegal when CSA 2010 goes in effect in July. Doesn't matter if its hands free or otherwise.
dukeofearl Thanks this. -
I dont think csa is going to be implemented this year.Maybe I missed it but where does it say they are going to ban cell phones?
dukeofearl and JustSonny Thank this. -
My company sent out a memo some time back banning cell phone usage while driving - funny thing is they'll call me while they know I'm driving if they need me to change something. Go figure.. I know this happens a lot at LTL companies especially to P&D route drivers.
JustSonny, dukeofearl and Big Don Thank this. -
Safety is driving the industry. In the oil field, many energy companies have banned any cell phone use when moving. We are contact haulers for the Frac contractors, (halliburton, bj, etc but if they are going to certain energy producers, (shell, anadarko) then we can't use cells while in transit to their sites without first stopping. It is probably a good thing, tho inconvienent.
JustSonny and dukeofearl Thank this. -
