more experienced drivers may know this already but for those who don't. I am currently sitting in a rest area near x 205 in Iowa using IDOT free wifi. Not sure about the other rest areas.:yes2557:

oops ...I read the subject line too fast & thought it said "Idiot free wifi!"

That's good to hear a lot of state run rest areas are offering the service, though.

I'm from Illinois which is also called IDOT. We frequently coin that and call them IDIOTS. :biggrin_25517:

Many rest areas also charge for the wifi usage. Booo that! But it's good to see more and more free ones around. A lot of the McDonalds and such at the truck stops have free wifi too. You just have to be inside to use it.

Also remember there are some security concerns when using free wifi, so don't do any kind of online banking or purchase things with a credit card when using an open wifi. But it's nice to have just to surf the web.

The iowa rest areas (most) have free wifi but there is a time limit on how long you can stay on it

I was just about to say that. I fell asleep with mines connected to wifi and when I tried to go to another page it said I exceeded the limit.

I've stayed at two rest areas in Iowa that have free wifi. First one was I-29 and I got unlimited time. Second one was on I-35 and I got about two hours of time before it said my time was up.

Most rest areas in Texas have free WiFi as well. There is usually a sign on the rest area sign before you exit to let you know.
