Hi all: I have a friend who recently started trucking. the company that hired him told him that they would pay for his schooling. Now that he is through with training, they have said "Oh no, that is an old program, we stopped doing that."
This is completely bogus. It is one of the main reasons he went with this company.
Does this happen alot? Has anyone tried to enforce a verbal contract? If it has happened to others would you be interested in grouping together to try to enforce what was promised?
Sounds from this site like there are alot of disreputable companies operating out there.
Thanks for your input.

A verbal contract will hold up in court. It can't be one fella's word against another's though. There has to be a witness. Or the guy has to be really freakin' believable.

Believe it or not, a lot of of shipper/carrier contracts are verbal. I've seen trucking companies buy 50 new trailers for a "new" account and then get their "contract" cancelled. Can you say "Oh thit" ?

Verbal contracts are dealt with on almost every episode of judge judy. its almost always totally unenforcable.

Werner just set up a couple hundred tractors and trailers with super singles for beer and water dedicated accounts. -
Get everything in writing. A good lawyer friend of mine once said "If it isn't on paper, it never happened".

HAHA! What you said isnt entire information from friend. Companies dont pay for schooling (true). What they will do is reimburse you for up to 5 grand of schooling over 2 years of being with company. If they paid you for the 5 grand of schooling whats to keep you there at the company? See the point?

"If it isn't written down, it was never said."
I live by that rule. -
Especially this day in age!!! Doing something with a verbal contract is just ASKING to be screwed!

There used to be a time when a handshake was a binding agreement between parties. People were trusted by a verbal agreement. Not any more. So saddd.
