so all these drivers position ads that say you can earn $50k a year is pretty buch BS?

I mean even if it was $35k, I make that now and live ok. I can't afford sports cars and lavish homes etc but I do have a motorcycle and a new truck and a nice townhome/condo.

what I gather is they say you can make "UP TO" $35 your first year but what they don't tell you is "IF YOU'RE LUCKY". and you actually end up making $19-25k. is this a pretty an accurate statement?

I'm sure you do alot of loading or unloading with these guys right? The problem with alot of OTR guys is that they can hardly get in and out of the trucks let alone move the freight. That is why they are OTR guys. Sad but true.

Hey Rick, I hear what your saying but why is it the newbie's fault. They have very little choices, most of us are desperate for work, losing our homes, life savings, everything we worked for and were suppose to not work. I agree that it's a supply thing but everyone in the business can do something. Why don't you veteran drivers that already have a job stop driving, that would park thousands of trucks too! The incomming newbies would not be able to be trained, and the lack of skilled drivers would stop these companies in there tracks. Problem, you need to work also. I think things will change soon. When the economy improves, and CSA2010 is fully launched, there will be a mass of people leaving this business, this will again put the remaining drivers in a much better positon. This is when drivers should step up

We are learning a truth I never really expected to learn. Pull them right out of school, then train them the way we HAVE to have it done, and they do it!
I am in HSE now, and it is very hard to give presentations when you have 40 drivers in the room, and half are "Newbies" and the others have experience. The new ones litterally "Drink" in what I am trying to convey, while the older hands, (Older as in tenure, not age) take in what they want, and discard the rest.
I encourage them to work together, so the new can learn, but also to break down the barriers between the ones that know and the ones who may be afraid to reach out and ask. Doesn't always work, but when it does it really benifits our company, and then it passes on into the customers and the public.
We don't team, but we don't leave them alone either.
    I don't think I answered your question?

You could make that "IF YOU'RE LUCKY", seems to be plausible.

    Hey Mark,

We have something in common, being that I have some time in the Debonair, Duchess and Sierra.

Wish I owned one but then again it is an expensive hobby.
