I'm a newb that's been offered a job with a household moving company. I will be driving tractor trailers and straight trucks as well as packing and loading. My question is, if I want to go over the road later will the freight companies count the moving company as experience? Thanks for any advice.

That will probably be up to the discretion of your future employer.

I do not know that being a bedbugger would be a good place to start. Some of the places they go to are crazy to get into. You go where the house is.. it does not come to you...
Brutally_Handsome Thanks this. -
It's mostly local starting out with the opportunity to go on longer runs and stay out longer later on. It doesn't pay much starting out but I thought it might be a good way to get into the business without having to immediately go over the road.

Is it true that the better moving company jobs are with their specialized departments and hauling the military people HHG?
I talked to one driver that was from Allied years ago because he had one of those fanncy trucks and he was telling me how good hauling specialized electronic gear was. -
military was the best to haul last year the rate went down big time the rate on cod was 69% discount .The specialized i dont know i think it got hit hard to years ago we could get some of thier load as back haul not anymore when thier was no hhg to load the load i haul for sp pay was ok hhg pay better

I do local and short haul, no HHG, Only medical equ., trade shows and electronics, Paid by the Hr for local and miliage for short haul

20 yrs ago I did local HHG, even though I didn't have my CDL yet they would occasionally have me drive one of the straight trucks to jobsites if they were shorthanded. It can be hot, dirty, back breaking work, but once oyu get exp. and if your with a good carrier you can make good money. I know some AVL and UVL drivers that run their butts off for 8 mos. and then take 4 months off.

I've always had a large amount of respect for the moving company truckers. They have awesome trucks, mega sleepers, and seem to make a very good income.
But you DESERVE it!! Not only having to move things, but driving those trucks through neighborhoods... Good Lord that must be a pain in the ###!!phantombandit Thanks this.
