LOL! Sometimes I wonder if others are just trying to start trouble hoping to get someone to write an essay paper for no reason.

Wow, I get busy getting close to home and my thread gets busy.... I did make it to the SFS terminal, took the truck to the shop and wrote my list of 8 different things I wanted them to look at, the wife came and got me and I'm waiting it out at home for a couple of days until I deliver Monday morning. I'm then gonna try to get my 2 or 3 days hometime. Hopefully they will let me use the hometime later instead of now since I'm still technically under a load....it's just instead of waiting at a truckstop or terminal somewhere, I"m sleeping in my own bed....
That stupid transmission really sucks....keeps missing shifting from 4th to 5th, which usually happens in the middle of an intersection or just after. I must get that fixed. I may get some more hometime than I thought while they look at it, but I'm really not complaining about that! -
Warpdrvr Thanks this.

great job warp. i would most definately take my own bed at home insted of a bed in a truck...
Warpdrvr Thanks this. -
Well, I delivered my load today....at a place so small a 53' has no business trying to maneuver in there, but I got it to the dock, it only took me 10 pull ups or so...LOL. So, after that, since I had batteries, I had to get a trailer wash out. I had to go from Anaheim, CA to Vernon, CA just for a 10 minute, $15 wash out. Took me longer for that than for the unload! Now I have at least a couple of days off, depending on how long it takes the shop to get my truck fixed up.

Enjoy your time off Warp. The time between loads can be a pain. Dry vans should not be bad as reefer. Reefer some shippers want pallets so the driver has to get them and then the reciever gives the driver pallets. Then the next shipper doesn't need them so you have to drop them off at a pallet store then wash before load. Seems like that was the rut I was in. I never worked dry vans but the dry loads I didn't fuss with the pallets.
Since I never seen an auto transmission in a big truck, is there a way for the driver to check fluid levels? -
I looked for a place to check the auto fluid, but couldn't find any dipstick or such....the mechanic said the clutch may need adjusting or something. If you ask me, they need to replace the whole darn thing, some other drivers said that particular truck has had issues in the past. Dunno how long they keep the trucks, but this one is an '05 and has 601,000+ miles.
As for reefers, I've heard they are a pain in the rear for many different reasons... -
warp, rarly will you have to get a wash out... i think i have only had to do it 3 times, but that also depends on where you pick up at.. glad to see your home, enjoy the days off my friend!
they dont have plans on buying new trucks, but ill tell you that if the truck keeps giving you problems just ask for a different truck.... tell them you prefer a 10 spd manual...
most likly they will give you another truck....
as for the shop in LA, i wouldnt hold my breath on them fixing everything you want/need fixed... they will suggest you go to helena or missoua to have the work done their... if the truck is drive-able, and you can make money, then just run... let them tell you to bring it in.... get out their and get some miles turning..
in the event they tell you that youll need to go to helena or missoula, i would highly recomend that you go to helena over missoula, im my opinion, and many others, helena does a way better job..Last edited: Mar 16, 2010

Thanks for the heads up on the shop....I had heard that SFS had the best shop of the 3, but I suppose it's all in who you ask. I do want to run and make some money, so once the mechanical/safety issues are fixed, I can live with the rest for a while. Sorry to hear they have no plans to get rid of the older trucks, but I suppose with newbs coming in all the time, it's just a matter of time until I get a better one with an APU that works!

Well, I'll be here at least one extra day, courtesy of the shop....they are kind of backed up and it's taking longer than originally thought....If I'm here on Friday, gonna try and meet up with Lynch and get some lunch.
