Wondering if anyone has attempted or know of someone who has swapped out an EGR ISX for a pre-egr ISX.
I have the EGR model, but when it comes time to rebuild, have been toying around with the idea of rebuilding a pre-egr model and putting it in instead. Not worried about CARB, truck doesn't go near California. Just wondering if those a little more technical savvy than I am know of doing this and what, if any, problems there would be in doing the swap.
Thanks!

Instead of swapping the motor..........get a program for the ECM to delete the EGR and variable pitch turbo.........it's available

All it would require to change is a little bit of rerouting on the ecm pins. No big deal.

seriously? I wish i could PM and go into alittle more depth. Unless you would like to post on here

You may find this thread interesting, the guy says its not worth it...

Then buying early ISX its not that smart isdea at all, they were upgrading them all the time. Just having to deal with old style pistons might be not worth it???
Whats wrong with your motor now? There are some shops I know in Chicago area that are pretty good on ISX and dont charge a fortune -

Nothing wrong with motor now. You must have missed the point. When this engine is due to rebuild, was wanting to rebuild instead a pre-egr ISX and put it in in place of this egr isx. Thanks for the lead on shops, but have a couple of real good shops I use in Central Iowa that I will work with.Last edited: Mar 15, 2010

There is nothing wrong with my current engine, except that it is an egr engine. I have the EGR unplugged now, which has given me a .8 mpg better fuel mileage and greatly improved used oil samples including lower wear metal numbers and obviously lower soot levels. But, when the time comes to rebuild the engine, I was wanting instead to rebuild a pre egr isx and replace this egr isx. I could also rebuild this one, and then unplug the egr as before, but why even have an egr, egr cooler anyway. Why not just go with the pre egr engine. Not trying to "convert" my egr isx to pre-egr like was mentioned in the thread you referenced. Not worth the time and trouble. Especially when I got virtually a pre-egr now by just unplugging the egr valve. I just want to avoid having an egr engine in the future. EGR coolers can still go out or leak even if the EGR is unplugged. By having a non egr ISX, that is less components to have to fiddle with. -
Never mind, I got your another post
