I also know a tree guy that climbs and just uses a van , ropes and a ladder and a helper .

his speciality is getting hazard limbs on the ground right away and letting someone else do the cleanup .

 

OK, that's a start. 6 mos. contract is a good deal.

 

Apply to any school, any company paid training, any and everybody. If you get a yes, go for it. I think you can prove your work history if you have tax returns as Chinatown alluded to earlier. Try anyway. Worst come to worst, get another phone and put a different number down have the companies call that number and pretend you're working for someone instead of working for yourself under the table. It only takes 1 yes, and when you get that yes, stay for longer than 6 months. Stay for a year. That's the magic number. If you like where you're working, stay longer. Don't make a move unless forced.

 

The criminal past is old as dirt. It ain't like you murdered someone, committed a sexual misconduct crime, or had felony theft. We all make mistakes and you've stayed out of trouble for over a decade. Kudos to you for that. I think the work history may be the bigger barrier, but ultimately I think you'll be fine.
