Wow, I didn't realize quality truck stops were in such short supply. My school had me drive to a couple in the area and they all seemed decent with good lighting and cameras. Maybe where I am is a sort of "node" for trucks? (I'm unsure of the terminology)

Good truckstops are plentiful. Some drivers would complain if you hung them with a brand new rope.
One reason I prefer refrigerated trucking is, it's easier to trip plan for mostly night driving. This makes it easier to find parking in truck stops for a 10 hour sleep break after daylight.
Also, with refrigerated, the unloading is usually in the wee hours of the morning. After unloading, easy to find truck parking at truck stops, because the other drivers, dry van, flatbed, are usually leaving.
Refrigerated trucking is challenging and that's one reason I really like it.Alley Dock and SeasideRide Thank this. -
Most truckstops I have been to....don't compare/compete well with company terminals -- for A-N-Y-thing.
But don't worry -- be happy.
You'll find out....soon enough.

Stick to your guns and follow through with what you want to do. Do not let Recruiters try and tell you to go on accounts like Dollar Tree saying you'll make just as much and be home. The only thing good about Dollar Tree accounts is it did make me better at backing by using GOAL and stuff like that. Get your stuff taken car of get out there with hopefully a good trainer. My trainer from Werner owned 3 trucks, and wanted to teach and run. It was great. Once you get your probationary period done you'll be running pretty much a team until you get off the truck. Get your truck and do over the road. After 1 year and you dress your license you can do what ever you want. Wont take long if you do well, keep your license clean. I would then either go Walmart, Tanker hazamat as a company man. Good Luck take it day by day and always GOAL. Stay Safe!

Cooking in the truck while on the road?
There's several thread on here about saving lots of money by cooking in the truck.
One driver puts a chicken in a crock pot and it cooks while he's truckin' down the road. That night he has fresh cooked chicken with some potatoes & carrots included.SeasideRide Thanks this. -
. I know some parts might be boring, but I would like to see more of the country from the ground rather than just flying over haha.

China recommended Magnum, they’re a good company to start with and they don’t go into the Northeast. Best of luck!
Chinatown and SeasideRide Thank this. -

Thank you all for the perspectives and advice! I appreciate the information, it all is very helpful. This weekend I will go through each of the companies mentioned and do a bit of research. Then I'll make a list in order of my personal preference and the opinions of the experienced poster here; then I will start applying!
Again, thanks to everyone for the guidance
