when you quote a rate; whether you are mindful of it or not you are including what you feel you will spend and what you need to make
that's all the calculator does, you put in your monthly expense and the income you want to make in a month, and all it does is divide it down into a rate per load, its that simple.
I don't present the calculator as a magic pill to trucking success, but if you take the time to learn it it will make you more aware of the numbers..............Jo Bernard

Must be an E/O Mississippi thing for higher flatbed rates....although the rates are climbing here.....little by little...
Until the developers start breaking ground...Tarped lumber here will stay at $1/m or lower..... -

I want to give you reference to the calculator I posted on this site which will help you. it includes videos that will show you how to use it. The post is O/O Rate = E + I / L / M This "Will" Really Help.
Now: with your truck payment at 1840 here are the assumtions I made: I saved a copy on the Internet calculator. You'll be able to change any inputs and work the numbers around as you wish
6 mpg
2.92 gallon fuel price
avg. ld per month 550mi
avg. DH .20 or approx 137 mi
each load will take 1.35 or one day and about a third part of the next
19.26 loads for the whole month
approx total monthly miles 13,240 ld/dh
On the road 26 days of the month
You'll notice I set all the expense as avg. for a lease situation I'll mention a few here to somewhat clarify
I set you Bobtail and liability at 500 a month, may be a tad high but still
you'll notice I have you idling 10.5 hours a day still again you can change these numbers
I also took all of your annual payments and divided them down into monthly payments
and I added 2 truck washes for the month
In the final analysis (A Trucking Ownership Analysis)(I just now made that up, you like it? lol) running at .90 and .26 fsc "Nets" you about 2404.00 for the month
your base rate would have to be 1.06 if your fsc is .26 for a total of like 1.32 on all miles as a lease operator to earn 4522.00. I always say if you can earn 3000.00 after taxes on a full month company drv. you should expect to earn 4500mo after taxes taking the extra expense and responsibility of leasing on.
here are the two examples from the calculator
.90 at .26 fsc http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AloyOIMFxJn-dEg1S1ZTeE5GN0hOVEw1NVBscHNxU0E&hl=en
1.06 at .26 fsc http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AloyOIMFxJn-dGd6aWotNWtjek8tYTNkNXlEY1lpVWc&hl=en
When you get to the calculator if you click on "Google docs" you will find the "saved" calculators, yours is named Truck payment 1840 Hope this helps.......Jo BernardLast edited: Mar 15, 2010

Okay, today's example involves a percent % situation, Here are the details.
The operator owns his trailer- his percent is 72% of loaded miles - no pay on DH - and he "expects" to net after taxes $4500.00 for the month, alright let's fill in the gaps:
1650.00 truck payment
500.00 bobtail/liability
250 trailer payment
2.92 fuel price
6.00 mpg
26 days out
540 mi. each load (per day run)
1.35 days: load duration (that's like a day and a third of the next day)
10,400 total "loaded" miles for the month
19.26 he runs the equivalent of 19.26 loads for the month
10hrs a day he idles his truck
the calculator shows that his operating expense will total 12,220 (month), and based on the national average fuel price (NAFP) fuel surcharge is .26, and that "his" average rate per load needs to be 1.35 per load (that's 'of' his percent) 1.35 + .26 = 1.60 his "monthly net" would be 4,497.21
(To clarify "of" his percent: in other words the load would have to originally book for like 1.87.50 and his cut by percentage is like 1.35 plus fsc)
You can see this example by going to the calculator in this post, by clicking on Google Docs. then click on "Leased By Percentage, Own Trailer Truck 1650.00" Oh Yeah, I'll be posting an article on the blog tomorrow, maybe tonight, Lord will'en" check it out.......Jo BernardLast edited: Mar 17, 2010

Your a real business man... See how long you stay in business. Because of people like you, the rates get pushed down.
-
a grand a week? sounds like you could make a grand a day with a little work!
anyway, but.....you have your own truck. you are your boss. Must be a great feeling. -
I am looking for a reference I saw today to a load board that has a rate calculator. But, now can't find it. It is definately part of a loadboard... one I'm not familier with. We use Internet Truckstop to check the creditworthiness of a buyer. But, the loadboard I saw mentioned as I jumped from one subject to another today - I'd be curious to give it a look. Maybe it's in this thread, and I just need to look again.
