Here is two of the oil samples I have done so far since owning the truck from New. I have a 3rd sample but the dealer never got me the information and I never requested it from them and kind of forgot about it until this came in today.![]()

Newer engines can have high copper initially from the oil cooler, it should settle to low single digits, ideally zero.
Same with tin and lead.
Your silicon was crazy high, now it’s on the high side. I’d look at the air intake from the air filter to the turbo to make sure a clamp or something isn’t loose or out of alignment. If it stays above ten the lead and tin will get worse over time.
Just noticed mileage on oil. Maybe change it a little sooner, like 50,000 miles.Rideandrepair, InTooDeep, Vampire and 2 others Thank this. -
I do have the Fleet Air filter and let it go a little longer than I should had before cleaning it on this sample. First sample did not have the Fleet Air Filter on. I will clean the filter more often this time around to see if that is the issue. Gonna guess that is the reason the silicon is higher than it should be.Rideandrepair, Vampire and uncleal13 Thank this. -
That looks like a Blackstone report. What did their explanantion at the bottom say? I've gotten more useful info from what they say than what the numbers show since I am only slowly learning what all the numbers mean on modern diesel engines.
When I've had elevated metals numbers it's been when a part was replaced recently, such as CAC once which threw some things off.
Uncle Al's explanation makes a lot of sense to me as well.
Also, Im curious, what oil are you running?Rideandrepair, Siinman and Vampire Thank this. -
The copper is a little elevated in my opinion. Enough to concern me anyway. Silicon is too but like you mentioned, probably air filter related.

That's the meat and taters to me right there ^^^
You're braver than me on oil change intervals.
I haven't had a sample done on my new truck since I'm only 2/3 or so through my miles on the fresh oil that came in it but I can't
wait to hear what they have to say.Rideandrepair and Siinman Thank this. -

I just got out mine out of the shop today with fresh overhead, iShift oil/filter change, both rears oil changed and a few other things. Can't wait to see if my mileage improves with the overhead. It was way out. The company who owned my truck before that was supposed to be so on top of things.......wasn't.
Vampire, Siinman and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
What do you guys think about my oil sample? I’m thinking it might have some coolant mixing. Just maybe. Lol. All I know about oil samples is to compare results against averages. I think high silicone usually means dirty air filters. High Boron usually from detergents. Using Lucas for instance caused mine to be high. I’ve had high iron in a Cat at 500k, that lasted 1 mil miles. Also had other samples with big variations, basically false alarms. Steady samples by the same Lab is a good idea. Looking for any big differences from previous samples. Hopefully catch a problem before it’s a catastrophe, such as this. I’d added a gallon or so over a couple months. Didn’t think much of it. Thought it was probably a cold leak. Better safe than sorry. Anytime coolants being added. There’s a problem somewhere. Random samples I’ve done with 500k miles between them haven’t been any different, even though the engine blew a few months later. Consistently is the key to sampling. Watching for trends/changes.
