My opinion they are having you pay for something that they are required to provide. Unless it was a condition of employment before you started working there that you previously agreed with I don’t see how they can reasonably expect you to pay for it no matter how much of your bandwidth it takes.
Besides they are the only ones that can get any type of deduction on taxes as a buisness expense.
I would personally refuse to use my personal devices to save them money!

I concur with others. My former employer treated me very well and if I had asked him to help pay for my phone usage for his benefit he would have or would have purchased a tablet or company phone for me to use. I would NOT use my personal phone if they are EXPECTING or DEMANDING that I do it. I used my personal phone as a convenience for me and my former employer because that’s the kind of relationship we had

Don't use your phone. Period. I would get a flip phone for use in the truck. Tell them your phone can't download any apps. Motive included.

Halliburton reimbursed $40 a month for your personal phone use.Elogs were not on your personal phone, they had a different device mounted in the truck for that.We used our own phone a lot, texting dispatch and the gohawk app for getting loads,on our personal phones.

That’s the way it should be done since W-2 employees lost all their deductions.

I used my phone when my elog started to give me issues, after 2 weeks i told company $hti or get off the pot!! They had new elog for me the next night….its unconscionable that companies expect drivers to provide a phone. My phone costs me $70 with the data…not cheap in Canada at all.
Some companies pay drivers some cash monthly for driver to provide phone but i dont get anything.

I worked for a company that used Keep Trucking ELD. I used my own tablet and/or phone. To me it's not that big of a deal. It was an app that had to be downloaded. They didn't give me any money towards my phone bill...it would have been nice if they did, but I really didn't care. It ain't a good hill to die on. At least they won't have you contributing to the Motive ELD company bill. That's what would alarm me. Big companies provide the devices usually, smaller lesser known companies, probably not so much. I don't know that it's etched in stone that they have to provide the actual device. I think they just gotta provide the service.

Company reimburses for cell phone. I have 2, one of which has Motive ap loaded. We had and some still use EROAD, which is a pain to type on, so I'm not averse to using my phone to work with the Motive dongle. I pass on the camera, though, as I had more trouble keeping that working than I had making the Motive ap work.

I keep meticulous records and sometimes that has saved me lots of trouble, but I no longer stay out otr. And sometimes have to keep paper because the tractors I get assigned have no ELD dongle or even EROAD installed.

My comany uses Samsara for our elds. It's another app that is downloaded. I was already using my own phone for our previous elderly systeman. So this just took its place.

I don't worry about having a separate device for it. It's never been problem. A couple ofriends Co workers made a stink. Mostly because they had not previously been on an eld. And our boss got a few tablets to use.

So what you are saying you don't mind your boss tracking everywhere you go? No, not the truck, but you.
For me that's a deal breaker. Maybe he's a great boss, but what happens when there is a wreck and he looking at a 100 million dollar lawsuit?
