Any southern ca. Drivers have ever worked for Robertsons ready mix?

does anyone know what trucks they start you off with as a recent graduate? The mixer truck sounds like really hard work, especially dealing with mixing, pouring cement, and construction workers.

 

Mixers aren't all that bad. A lot of drivers make a career out of doing mixer work. You might occasionally shovel out your unload chutes but other than that there isn't a lot of physical labor involved. Drivers don't do any mixing or finishing.

 

Do you guys know if they do tuition reimbursement? Maybe they only do paid training .

 

oh because I was reading that they might have to adjust the mix with different things like water or other chemicals with the cement according to what the construction guys are saying and that they might ask you to put the truck in really bad places like ditches or that the truck can get stuck and that the construction workers have attitude problems.

 

do you guys think I would be able to get a Regional/Dedicated or OTR job after working for a ready mix company for a year or so as a rookie? Or are they gonna want OTR experience?

 

You adjust the slump of the delivered load by adding water from a tank on the truck. No work involved.
The workers on site might take a little getting used to. One thing for sure, they'll let you know exactly where they want the load. Watch your spotter at all times. You can get into some bad spots but an experienced ground crew won't put you in jeopardy knowingly. If you lay that mixer on it's side, or even just get stuck, the job is delayed until you get out. Concrete guys don't want any delays.
Now, if you're one of those new age delicate kind of guys you might not like all the yelling that goes on. If it's not directed at you, ignore it. If it is directed at you you'll know soon enough.

 

If you want a regional or OTR job, your best bet would be to hire on driving a pneumatic. Your second best option would be to drive an end-dump or belly-dump.
