Since he comes in under the 100 miles radius rule (I am assuming he does) his entire day is logged "on duty".

Otherwise he'd be doing nothing but drawing lines in his logbook all day.

its not even a logbook, 100 mile radius drivers can log 7 days on one sheet... ;)

Or the subject of a Compliance Review. Then you'll realize just how much HOS affects you.

After 15yrs. of driving dump, this didnt just come up. I think your done.
I dont know all the rules, but as a O/O, I have always been told as long as the truck is not apportioned, and stays in a 100 mile radious, you can run 24/7 with NO LOG. As I said though, I dont know all the rules, but I have ran like that for years. I started out driving dump so I understand where your coming from. Alot of people are trying to change things in the industry such as, pay, hos, ect. to make it a better job. In MY opinion though, they are attacking the wrong things. Company drivers, DOT regulations attack companys, bringing about their demise, and putting people out of work. So whats the answer? I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "Trucking works on one basic principle, THE MORE YOU MOVE, THE MORE YOU MAKE!" Now, in MY opinion, nobody is goin to change anything UNTIL the way the truck is paid is changed! When you change the way the truck is paid, you'll change the way the trucks are ran. Until that day comes, that company will always be able to put some other driver in your truck that will be willing to go get that extra load, and if they cant, they'll go out of buisness.....forcing you as a driver to prove yourself to yet another company, and as they say, "the vicious cycle will repeat itself". If the truck was paid right, from the start, it would filter down to the driver. But, as it is, it is the driver who has to make up for this, which in turn brings about these rules and regs signed in, and inforced by those who couldnt care a less if you or your family starve to death. And their way of justifying their actions towards truck drivers always comes down to just one word "SAFETY" I know there are companys out there that are just down right greedy, but on the other hand Trucking companys are dropping off like flies, and some would have us believe its because their makin so much money. I honestly believe if drivers would do alittle research into how much money a truck makes, and then take all the expences off, they would be very greatful they even had a truck to drive, much less insurance, or good pay, or basically any benifits at all. Just my thoughts...

The Boss may be wrong but is not barking up the wrong tree. Who's to say a quick inspection would have saved any part on a truck but one time that it does you, dispatch, and the shop are way ahead of the game. I've found a drive shaft going out long before it did any damage, I also spotted a axle inspection window cracked and without any oil. That one would have cost us some time and bucks sense the truck was going some distance. I'm not saying I can find everything wrong that is wrong but I do look. And just maybe if you extent your inspection a little you might find something the shop should have done or a part that just does not reach it's full life.
