RicksChick I am a trainer. Aside from the advice others have given you here's something else to tell your hubby. First central takes care of damage done to trainers trucks by students so he doesn't need to worry about that. Second if he does not feel like his trainer is working for him tell him to get another one he can request this with the training department and tell him to be persistent when he does. NO trainer is to tell at their students whatsoever this is against our policy and can get our training status removed. Third it takes a while to learn how to downshift that was my problem too but like they've all said in here he just needs to learn the shift range and eventually hell be able to do it by engine sound alone so tell him not to get discouraged or let his trainer talk to him like that report him if necessary. It takes time and practice.

Thanks for all the advice I've received so far. My husband said that before he left on the first day with the trainer that his trainer told him that he's going to be his last student because he's leaving the company after he's done training him. We have a feeling this is impacting this trainer's attitude. The trainer said to him, "The sooner you're out of my truck, the sooner I can leave." We're thinking this guy doesn't care whether my husband finishes training or not.

Yeah.. You know.. Your husband is doubling this guys pay.. He gets paid 300 a week and the trainer gets paid for that 4000 or 5000 miles a week their doing. So the trainer needs to straighten up and fly right. If he has a temper or is afraid his trucks gunna tear up.. He needs to be removed from trainer status...

Tell your husband that his trainin is important.. So important.. And he needs to get the best he can... So don't feel afraid or ashamed or discouraged that he has to change trainers... Just call that number, tell them you don't feel like your getting proper trainin and you WANT a diffrent trainer.. Don't let em talk you out of it.. Remember.. Your paying 3grand for this training process and if they don't wanna train you right.. Why should you pay?

NO training should be done under fear and intimidation (except S.E.R.E. training in the military). He needs to report this clown and request another trainer! The success of his upgrade to solo status rides on this training.

I've met to many of our drivers who lack proper skills. You can easily identify them because they have a look of uncertainty in everything they do. This is a career and profession and should be treated as such.

Delivering in New Braunfels Texico. Heading to Laredo next and just checked the weather radar. Why does there need to be a ribbon of bad weather over I35? Guess the driving gods figure I need even more experience hauling sailboat fuel in crappy weather.

Well I was just almost "one of those people". lol Was coming back from the CPA and hit an icy patch and started for the curb. They haven't done diddly squat for the city streets yet and being in a P/U, sure doesn't help. Now if I still worked here, I would still have 3-100lb bags od sand in the back and experiencing no trouble. I'm not and I am. Oh well. Slow and easy, eh.

I have thought for years that all trainers should be company drivers.
No lease OPs should be able to train.
Now I do not believe that a company driver trainer needs to be paid for all the miles that the trainee is running. I think a set trainer rate by the week would work.
Or a lower mileage rate while training.
Why do I believe that they should be paid less? Because there has to be a way to make the trainer not want to just use the trainee for miles.
Even better would be to pay the trainer salary while training.
Say 1300 a week. That way even if the company runs there butts off they are paid more than they would if they had solo run that week.
And the trainer can sit in the jump seat for the first 2 week (the way they should anyway) and train. Not drive.

This will never happen though. Central is not really all that interested in these trainees learning while with the trainer. They want the team in the truck to do whatever miles they give them.

Well from looking at my preplan and talking to the weeknd DM, looks like this is going to be one of those loads, again, where I go to the truck, do my forms, get my info, then come back to the house for another day. Sigh ":( I'm really beginning to hate meat loads!!!

I noticed how a lot of you want to stay west see more of Oregon and Washington, Central is not a travel agent! It is a job, and you can not go where you want. You have to go where you are needed. That is what we have all been told.
