Typical questions are “What are you hauling”? Do you Own this Truck?“You making any money”? I’ve also heard “ Ever been asked to haul drugs?” And always, “Any firearms or illegal weapons in the Vehicle”? Then it’s “Do you mind if I do a quick search?” Then I lie and say “No not at all”. What a bunch of BS. But it’s a money maker for them. Maybe a little pocket money off the top. I’m sure of it. They’re like a bunch of hounds when they get a tip. Especially in Ms. and Al.

I wonder if the officer is familiar with the term "loss leader"? IE hauling a load for a loss as part of a package of very profitable loads?

Or just the concept of "backhaul"?

I'll also point out the number of hoops he tried to jump through to justify searching the cab. He knew it probably wasn't justified, so he lied. I wonder what would have happened if he just said "while ensuring the proper functioning of the defroster, I noticed XYZ".
