My last job before trucking I was working as a business analyst at a certain large investment bank which shall remain nameless (CITI). I was there for about five years. I really liked it. Up until the day I didn't anymore. Then I spent a month going in every day and hating every second of it. One day I went out to lunch and never went back. Never said anything to anyone there again. I figured they would get the hint. Two weeks later, CITI went to hell along with a bunch of other banks. I'm sure you all remember that. I suppose it was just good timing on my part. Or something.

I worked as a customer Service Manager at a call Center for Sears for 8 years until I got laid off. It was much cheaper to operate a call center in the Philippines than in the US. almost a year with no luck finding work. I got into trucking and In an Ironic twist. I am now on a Dedicated account with Sears and I even deliver appliances to my last job.

Yeah, I hate when you make a call to Customer Service and get some clown in India you can't understand.
I worked for TWA for 38 years before they did a "wing over" and American Airlines bought the assets of the company and kicked most of the employees to the curb. I worked in flight crew scheduling, and yes we had arguments over FAA/Union rules. Most of the times the Union rules were more restrictive then the FFA rules, maybe thats why we went broke. I also worked in capacity management, you know the guys that decide what flights to overbook and how many seats. We had flights that had 20-25 % no shows, so on a 747 thats 100 extra seats we would open up for booking.
Got into trucking by going with a redi mix company, then did the end dump and now hauling concrete pipe on a flat. Its no OTR for this ol buzzard, like my day cab, its easier to back with that big back window. Had to back 3/4 mile yesterday to unload, 3 times. When we do go out of town, its Hotels, swimming pools, nice beds, free breakfast, just the way truckin' should be.
I may retire one of these days, who knows. -
Worked in the hospitality industry from '96 through February of this year until I decided I had enough. Last job was on a cruise ship and NO it wasn't a dream job. Most of my work involved the back of the house as a chef and manager with a stint for 2 years as a general manager of a coffee shop. Brief stint in telecom/data sales in the early 2000's. Now I'm about to get behind the wheel as a brand spanking new green rookie fresh out of CDL school.

Electrician right out of High School. Made a better living 10 years ago, now the laboror's are running all the jobs. Another job that you can't make a living at anymore.

Taxi cab driver. I did that from age 21-30. From 16-21 I delivered pizzas. I've always been driving, except for a brief stint in the early 90's where I worked in a heat treating plant. Being stuck in one building day in and day out just didn't work out for me.

Started out in Taxi's in NYC. Nothing like a driving job. Did a few odds and ends over the years and moved out to PA since it's cheaper to live. Found a few more odds and ends, ended up driving a local delivery route (non-CDL) untill that company started laying people off.
So I took the gubment cheese and got my CDL. I've driven just about everything else at this point.
Did a year and a half OTR, then my wife got pregnant, so I had to find a local job. Got #### lucky and found a local moving company with a logistics arm (20 units total.) Been back on the clock since March.
