The only reason I say go OTR is once you get a year in, it opens up a lot more doors.
Also, if you can...get an address in another state and you'll have a lot more luck.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Ok so i've got a job offer from C.R.S.T out of Tampa Florida. It looks like they are going to be able to start me in the next week. Are they a good company to start with even though they aren't as well known? I dont want to work for a company that will only make my resume look bad in the long run.
-
malone or crst expedited because there are alot of threads on crst
-
crst=Teams..........if you like teaming !!!!!!
-
You need to be realistic about where you're going to go, you've got a ton of people on here trying to give you advice, and you seem like you're going to jump on CRST? Have you looked at some of the posts about them, expect to have no life and from what I've read not make much money and be gone all the time. Seriously consider WM, I can't recall I've even seen you comment back on some of our advice about them, get on as a residential driver, move up to frontload, then rolloff, life will be good, and the money is good. One thing about it is while you move up the ladder, atleast you're at home every night, there's no real chance of moving up the ladder as an OTR driver, you can move up pay scales and what not, but at the end of the day you're stuck in a truck miles away from home, if this is what you want then don't let anyone stop you, but just put a little effort in to this decission before you go signing on with a company that will make you hate this profession in a matter of months, or weeks in some cases.

Yeah well it all looked good until i told them about my suspension and that it was more than 12 months in the last three years. werner turned me down as well just today. i dont know what to do. i still have a chance at covenant but i just read this thread that talked about how they charge to idle ($3 an hour) and charg you if you go the wrong way ( $2 a mile ) i would think a company hiring new drivers would eat that cost in hopes to retain a few loyal employees but from what i have read they are nothing but fecal matter and not getting any better......although with that said i understood at the start of this i would have to pay my due's but....i didn't think it would be this bad. the only reason i am still considering a job with them is because it seems like they might be the only company that will take me.
as far as the waist management thing.... my driving record is deplorable according to 9 out of ten transport companies ( the 10 is still to be determined) so i am sure a local company such as WM wouldn't even consider me. if you think otherwise i will put in an app but i doubt it. I'm about about to realize my worst fears.... that i spent 7 grand to get a cdl and it isn't worth the plastic it's made out of.
for any of you that know about hiring standards for ANY company here is my driving record...
suspension for non payment of child-support 6/2/06 reinstated 7/16/08
i have no points on my license and that suspension is the only thing i have had happen to me in 8 bleeding years. I suppose i was meant to be a burger flipper... -
I would also like to add that Roadmaster of tampa is a HUGE waste of money. they say they will help you get a job but they have one person doing to work of 4.she is supposed to be getting you a job and answering questions you have but instead she is hunting people down for the loan payments. Oh and you would think a place like that would run your driving record so they can detemine if you have a good enough one to have a chance at getting a job....apperently all they care about is the money. go figure.

Wow that is news to me about charging for idle & wrongway stuff...

However, ya know if you really want to get into trucking that bad, and it seems like you do as you have looked at a lot of companies and spent the money on training, then you should just bite the bullet and go with Covenant......Yeah they are pretty terrible and have some funky ideas but if you can stick with them until after July next year then your suspension will be 3 yrs old and you will have a over a year in driving with the same company (which is a plus).
Keep your MVR clean for that time and things will begin to look up...Companies love drivers that have an accident free, criminal free record...sooooo don't become one of those young - think they know it all cowboys - out there that drive their trucks like they drive their cars...like idiots. You should then be able to move onto another company with a much better understanding of what you want from a company.
Anyone else who wants to get into trucking should train through a company, not Roadmaster...Yeah I know you have to stay with that company for a year but at least you have a JOB and you have no loan to pay back !! ....these days it looks like RM is finding it hard to place drivers...
Well I have had my rant for the day...~lol~..take it for what it is..

If you can help it,dont go with covenant.I use to work for them. There a "bottom of the barrel company".Student drivers dont make enough to get by.And after training with a trainer,if they cant find someone for you to team with they'll send you home. I went local for several years then OTR.
