I think it’s a big distraction. I can’t seem to block enough of their numbers. I still get over 5 calls every day. “Not interested” doesn’t help. And I think it’s outrageous for a stranger to call you and straight up ask: “so how much are you making?” I contacted both Truckstop and DAT to have them not able to see my contact information. Unfortunately, DAT can’t do anything, they say anyone can sort trucking companies in their database and there’s no way to stop that. Truckstop told me they would block companies without mc# from seeing my contact information, I’m not sure if they did, or if they really did anything, but indeed if they say where they got my number it’s DAT.

And for worse, I think I chased away a broker I was actually on a load with, once or twice, because I mistaken them for a dispatch company too.

I try to be polite, because I believe everyone is entitled to do their hassle, but I also do emphasize that I’m not going to outsource the easiest part of my business to instead “focus” on a dirty part. SMH.

I have experienced this influx of calls for services from everything from "You have been qualified for 80k in financing to We provide loads for your kind of equipment, oh yea and one went so far as to send me a picture of MY truck. I had the sheriffs office handle that because it was local the dirt bag rode by my house. However we all know our information is on Safer Sys and any one can go there and pick an area, pull the names and contact info and away they go. What I did was I have a second phone that is for the company ONLY and I have a business address that is NOT my home. Yes it cost me about20 bucks a month BUT it keeps me from getting stupid aggravating and potentially dangerous calls.
