Hello everyone. I'm having an issue with my truck (2014 kw t800 with 12 liter cummins engine). The problem is it asks for a regeneration approximately every 7 hours of running. I do local work and don't get to run it enough for it to clean out the filter. I know it's about to request a reg with i see a lot of white smoke coming out the exhaust pipe. Has anyone ever had a similar problem?? What can I replace so it doesn't request a regen so often?

A little back story, I purchased the truck about a year ago and it had issues with the truck not wanting to regenerate. I took it to a local shop and they dropped the filters, baked them, replace a couple sensors in the aftertreatment system. It ran good for a while until it started with the regen every 7 hours.

    Thanks everyone.

Did they also replace the diesel injector just behind the turbo? It gets sooted up and can't inject properly even though the computer thinks it is and you keep getting incomplete regens because of it. Same goes for def injector. I just change mine around say 200-250k miles for peace of mind.

The longer a truck runs with incomplete regens the more likely soot it building up in the turbo and exhaust manifold, egr, everything. Had the same problem long time ago with my cat. To be honest I'm not really sure local trucks ever stand a chance with emissions intact since they don't get to regen going down the road for long enough as highway trucks do.

Here's an article. Talks about oil consumption, coolant heaters , and bio diesel.
3 tips to extend DPF life and keep filters running clean | Overdrive (overdriveonline.com)
Interesting that the article does not mention additives such as Howes , Pittsburgh Power etc. When used regens are less as less soot is produced.
What oil are you using? Ash comes from the oil. Some oils are 1% ash while the newest are .4%.
How much are you idling? Instead of just idling supposed to have rpm at about 900. ECM for some trucks will do this.
And like @gokiddogo said check any injectors in the exhaust system. At least clean them.

Hey Jb7, thanks for the reply. I'll have to read that article. The idling varies, but I would say approximately 3 hours per 12 hour shift. Keep in mind that we do local work in the city. Each round trip might be about 14 miles. When will know we're going to be on standby for a while I turn the truck off.
The lube place I go to put Delo. When I purchased the truck about a year ago it did throw a few codes related to the egr. When I removed the sensors to replace them, I noticed that they were coated with thick soot.
I placed an order for the def dozer and the 7th injector (behind the turbo) to get it replaced and hopefully it helps. I will keep you guys updated. Thanks

    gokiddogo Thanks this.
