If local driving appeals to you, many LTL companies hire dock workers and transition them to drivers. The company I work for does something similar. I work for a utilities supplier, and just as an example, right now we don’t need any drivers at my location, but we do need warehouse workers. If we hired a warehouse worker with a CDL, they would obviously work in the warehouse but also would fill in for drivers when they are off, and/or help out with hauling overflow freight with the spare truck as needed. They could then easily transfer into a permanent driver position when it becomes available.

Just a thought.... It would certainly beat driving for western express LOL

    @stingray83 --

The CDL job market right now (as I write this) for drivers with no experience is basically in the toilet.

With that said -- hope springs eternal.

Try the following carriers...they either hire drivers with no prev experience....have a refresher option...or both:

    • KLLM
    • FFE
    • Frey Miller
    • Roehl Transport

FFE and KLLM have a 9 day refresher plus a job.
From the websites: "Refresher courses to students from around the country."
    `
    REFRESHER COURSE
    OVERVIEW
Do you have a current Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) but don’t have recent experience to qualify to drive solo right away? Do you have a Class-A CDL but don’t have any on-the-road solo driving experience at all? The KLLM Driving Academies across the country offer a 9-day Refresher Course that will put you on the path to either getting back on the road as a professional truck driving or helping you start your career.

CR England has some good dedicated accounts for solo drivers. Trucks are top-notch and well maintained.

But like the both of them are saying @dryman & @stingray83 is that nobody’s hiring them because they have no experience at all. The real problem here is that they don’t have any otr miles or otr experience so they’re getting denied by insurance. Even Penske/Ryder “self-insured companies” won’t hire them probably, or even small mom and pop local companies, so even a situations with those smaller companies they take a class B driver with experience over a class A without experience.

I’m under the real assumption that it doesn’t even come down to the company, owner or the company it just comes down to insurance denying them.

This is caused by the recession and so many trucking companies going bankrupt with all those experienced drivers looking for work.
Best way to get hired is apply to reefer companies. Refrigerated food, medicine, plasma has to be shipped 24/7 even during a recession/depression.

Even though Western Express isn't a reefer outfit, I'd still apply there. It's a good 2nd chance company that's putting drivers to work right now.

A refresher course is not repeating all of CDL school. It seems you are rushing to conclude the worst-case scenario.

so because of the circumstances, and without any of us knowing your PSPMVR driving record. KLLM for refrigeration, western express for dry-van
Prepare for the worst, expect the best… the title does say badly trying to find a job. @dryman & @stingray83 saying they applied to these places still denied or left hanging. Knight told one of them you have experience I forget if that was dryman or stingray83

well actually fellas you live in the northwest why not a company like lumber84 or maybe a logging company
