Anyone know about Radio Active Radios?

why not get a ham license and do it legally on frequencies that have a higher IQ level

Dirty in = dirty out part is true.

Past that it I find it intresting that 90% of the hams on 10 meters run 100 watts or less and work the world. YET ...... on CH6 they run 10,000 watts and can't hear a thing ......

If you run enough power you will get to a point of you can't hear the other guy and it takes just a few mega watters to oblirate the channel for everyone.

 

All true. Years ago I had used one of those little matchbox Unidens...I think it was a PC66?- with a small footwarmer and got out all over with it. Probably paid $25 for the radio; everyone said they thought it was loud and proud, very clean.

 

I have been warned to stay out of both places. My thinking tells me that Radio Active Radios has a big web presence. Where Sparky has nearly none. That tells me RAR is getting way more business, hence way more opinions about them.

 

RF Limited has made a dual mosfet final add on that replaces the single final on the radio. This works for a number of radios but apparently is most reportedly successful on certain models of Cobras. What the successful mod will do is increase output wattage to 75-100 watts. Most reputable shops that do the mod will also do mods to improve the receive of the radio and oscilloscope tune the radio to be accurately on frequency.

Cost would be about $100 more or less depending on the radio model. The advantages to having this done would be that,

1. If you already have a radio you could save money over buying a newer more powerful radio for more power and not have to do additional wiring or or other modifications.

2. You could have a legal looking 11 meter cb radio with the power of a dual final export.

3. You wouldn't have to buy an amp for a little additional power.

 

CBradiotalk.com has a ton of Sparky praisers on there. Sparky even has his own web board on his site that have a lot of happy testimonials. RAR is probably more well known especially with their "super crap hack" options.

 

I would love to see a "super crap hack radio " on a good test station

RR is not all that good. Any shop that removes Limiters, and tells customers that it has to be done to tune a new radio is not a good one.
