You need to strip them and apply two or more coats of RainX (or better aftermarket; see AUTOPIA) and again after every time thru the Beacon. Same for side glass. Use matching aerosol cleaner. Clean daily minimum.
And replace the heater units. Turn in in every rain or fog.
I found an $18 stout extending wash brush that cleans the windshield AND it’s gasket/frame easily. Fits side box. HARBOR FREIGHT. Dip in bucket, apply DAWN soap. Scrub 2-directions. Let sit but not dry.
Finish with squeegee.
TX & LA oilfield tougher than some wuss Yank winter slush. Ain’t nothing like bug season and you nail hundreds of killer bees then HAVE to pull over on a narrow two-lane with no shoulder and an unpermitted 52k in the hopper.
Repair the mirrors. Do the prep work. Get the tools and supplies. Screw the cameras.

i never bought the x-ray glasses.....Another Canadian driver and JoeyJunk Thank this. -
Bumping this up. I searched and didn't find any other threads about this.
I've been seeing more and more trucks with no physical mirrors. Anyone have any experience with these? -
No sir and not sure I want to. I love new technology but I've got to draw the line at trucks with no physical mirrors. Just like these auto bright headlights blinding everyone lately. No way this is "safer".
Another Canadian driver, tinytim and Ffx95 Thank this. -
I most likely will refuse to drive one of those especially since my company runs paccars and they are notorious for electrical issues.
Another Canadian driver, tinytim and 86scotty Thank this. -
Yeah, just one more potential electrical issue.
I've seen them with physical mirrors as a back up as well as without.
There must be someone here with some firsthand experience. -
Was over in the uk in September. Was surprised to see so many trucks with only cameras. Hadn’t been over there for 10 years. I’d say it’ll only grow over here too.
Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Yeah, cameras, screens, computers and wiring.
Much better than a physical mirror.
They claim the biggest benefit is fuel economy but I’m skeptical.
It just became legal here(USA) to use them systems sans physical mirror. So you going to start seeing a lot more.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
The fuel savings is huge, but that's not why I like them.
I've only done a little in town stuff, and it definitely takes some getting used to. The biggest advantage is at night - you can see a lot better and don't get blinded by lights in the mirror. You don't have to worry about salt or ice coating the mirror either. Blindsiding is a lot easier too as the camera moves as the tractor articulates.
I wanted to be in the expanded pilot group, but my truck was too old and I didn't want to give up my apu. I haven't heard anything too bad about them and expect more of our new company trucks to be specd that way.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
I guess I still have a lot of questions about these things. Not so much being negative, but just curious.
What about these oversize guys. Will the mirrors telescope out to accompany wide loads etc?
Will they zoom in/out for a closer view?
Can a person manually direct/move/adjust the camera's view/direction?
Spot mirror vs wide shot?
Is the color as good at night/low light situations or do you get that black & white effect like with other cameras... like game cameras for example.
Ok, as someone else (funny) noted: He/she can't do their hair. If want to look at the passenger steer tire area for an object like a fire hydrant while backing (or going forward)..... or in heavy stop & go Atlanta traffic & I need to look at that area. Not only the right steer tire but maybe the drives. Or again, zoom in on a trailer tire? I guess I am just asking what they'll do & wont do. If they're gonna create some "super dyna-whopin' Superman" mirrors, all these things would be handy. And if they're doing away with the hood mirrors...... I'm just sayin'.
And my concern is, how long is it gonna be before they incorporate driver facing cameras in to the monitor inside the truck... like a 2 way mirror.
