my electric fan on my volvo d12 2007 is always on since I bought it 2 weeks ago. I've been told by mechanics that I have to replace it for new one it because it's broken and otherwise it'll overheat and I'll stop on the road. However I read that those electric fans are always on and wondering if to change it (1200$ plus labor) or it's okay. I've been running truck for over 2 weeks so far and always have temp 180 F so looks good. lemme know, please

It is not electric fan
It is viscoclutch with control solenoid and fan speed sensor (hall effect sensor).
This fan was introduced in 2002 on D12D engine on EU market and I'd say the same lifetime and durability like horton air controlled fan.
The same fan was used on Paccar engines from 2001, Mack/Renault from 2000. They have different connectors, but the same wire colors and I used to swap connectors to fit fan from JY to any engine I want.
To change fan type u have to reflash engine ECM. -
my mechanic is going to change it for regular air fan today. he said it's gonna cost 200$ extra for installation but I have no way out but do this. He said it's gonna take around 6 hours of labor
