FedEx Ground Linehaul with JohnBoy

When I was at ODFL there was a linehaul driver that would put his back box on the door every night, impressive to watch. I did it twice and both times it took me 5+ min, lol. I did learn to to hook my back box with the dolly on the lead, mainly out of laziness, lol, but it does save time and one in/out of the truck.

 

Oh OK… so you can actually connect the dolly directly to the truck like you connect the dolly to the Lead? I didn’t even think about doing that. In my head you either connected it to the lead and backed into the second or had to manually maneuver it into place by hand or something.

That’s the piece I was missing.

But if you can connect the Truck directly to the Dolly, why not run it back and hook the second first. Then connect the two?

Not all tractors have a pintel hook on the rear crossmember.
So hooking trailers without hitch on tractor means you got to mussel it. They are heavy and do not roll well off of flat paved surfaces. Many a driver have been hurt very bad this way.
Take the time and learn to back a dolly on back of trailer.
Your back will thank you..

 

Ohh yeah straight in the projects. Men always hanging out at that liquor store drinking on the corner. Places looks like trucks have no business being there then that stupid yellow tall metal pole on your left side when you make that turn and no sign telling you which way is linehaul lol i hate Memphis everyone stares at you funny. Im done with fedex ground did it for 4yrs couldn't deal with there bs any more..

 

You have to hook the pintle (front hitch) to the front trailer first. Otherwise, when the 5th wheel of the dolly is under the back trailer, the pintle raises too high.

 

Overnite years ago had a yard jockey, in Greensboro, NC , that could back a set of doubles to the dock, so I have been told. Never saw it personally. , but I saw a Roanoke driver, who walked with a cane, he would hook up to the head pup and then get the dolly go around and find the rear pup and back up the pup and dolly to the rear pup, I saw that.

 

Have only seen a few that could back a set over the years.
Wonder how many air lines and light cords were damaged to get to this point.
Also the bent fifth wheel handle..
