Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hey Russell and welcome to the forum and, eventually, to the USA. There are many veterans here who will help you with your transition. Best of luck to you!

Your only 3 chances are
1 Get a company to sponsor you, unlikely in the present economic climate.
2 Gain a green card through the lottery system, not sure Australia is high on the allocation list for those.
3 Marry a US citizen and undergo a change of status, just been through this on myself and it took about a year to complete.
If you have work there mate might be best to stay for the meantime.
Lived in Victoria when i was a kid and went to Melbourne for a visit on 05, not sure why you want to come here

I'm pretty sure any of the big companies would hire ya after ya get here and get the paperwork all legit.

thank you gents
nice car carrier (known as a car park here) -
There's no "Wet foot-Dry foot" for Ozzies????
-
Don't know what that means, pretty sure its funny though so let me know

That's the American policy for Cubans who flee from Cuba. If a Cuban refugee makes it to the shore and actually touches ("dry foot") dry beach...they will be allowed to live in the US.....If they are still in the water ("wet foot") when ICE is there to "greet" them.....they are sent back to Cuba....
In your case, I'm sure you had to jump through some hoops to get here.....
Ironically, people like you and the OP....People with a viable skill that would benefit America....Have a tougher time than the illegals who "jump the fence"....
I guess Day workers are more valuable than people with skills.....

Gordon Ramsey Didn't have any problem getting here, those Scottish I tell ya. He just swore his way through the interview LOL.
