On Friday March 26th 2010 a 1 yr old was killed when the van he was a passenger in, was struck by a MCT semi. The MCT truck traveling west on US 50 Highway, 4 miles west of Emporia, Kansas, attempted to pass on the shoulder, another semi that was stopped preparing to make a left turn. The van was traveling East, and was turning left.

The 1yr old that was killed in the accident, celebrated his 1st birthday on March 9th. This celebration was more than just his first birthday, it was a celebration of surviving. You see just one year ago, he was in the same hospital, doing the same thing, fighting for his life. His mother was told that he would not survive birth, that he would be still born. If he did survive that, he would not live past a few days or a month at best. He did survive surgeries to correct under-developed lungs. However even past that, it was unsure if he would live past a month.

On March 9th, he was doing fantastic, celebrating 1 yr, proving to the medical profession that their prediction was way off. He was just learning to walk. On March 25th, however a truck driver, not wanting to take the time to stop behind another truck in front of him preparing to make a left turn, steering his rig onto the shoulder around the truck, ended this miracle. He decided that what God determined 1 year ago was not going to be. That this miracle baby was not going to live.

The van was driven by my niece, the miracle boy, was my great-nephew. The truck driver, which I will not provide my true feelings, does not fit anywhere close to a "professional driver". He will however fit nicely in an orange jumpsuit. There's a jail cell and prison cell reserved for him.

And yet...The government keeps trying to find ways to get good experienced drivers disqualified and replace us with more of the "school losers" that have no business anywhere near a truck!

    Sorry for your loss.

No doubt this is tragic for all involved.

However, I failed to see the link that said it was a newbie or not a good experienced driver.

All I can say is Im truly sorry about your loss and hope many of the people that read this will learn to slow down.

On the other hand I am highly disappointed by the ignorance of some people whom think its ok to bicker about weather it was an experienced driver or a beginner. Its entirely irrelevant...show some respect and go argue somewhere else please.

    Ducks and Baack Thank this.

I only pointed out a fact.

I deal with accidents like these and have seen the effects up close.

They are never a pleasant sight for either side. Their lives will never be the same.
