The chrome shop is the place to spend your TA points. The ladies on the fuel island are great but the rest of the place is not the same.

One thing to remember is the man who built the place passed some years back and I think the family never had his vision.

what was this place like before 2008? I first went there in june 2008 my first time when i first got my cdl and i always thought it was cool, but I'm getting the impression from these posts that it used to be way better?

i hate how the big chains buy out great truckstops and screw them up.

A while back i went to the pilot in Napoleon, OH and it has like windows all around the sides that are covered up. I get the impression it used to have a restaurant. But I guess pilot doesnt believe in those. I dont see why they couldnt keep some windows...

Ain't nothing special about Iowa 80 anymore. It's just a glorified TA with the same crappy food as any other TA. TA, Flying J, Petro and Mcdonalds restuarants are just instant laxatives. No quality, just eat there if you're constipated and need relief.

We ate there..Hubby had a bbq sandwhich said it was really good. I had the buffett, the veggies were lacking but the meatloaf, and other items I ate were good. Hubby ate all the shrimp from the bar, and liked it LOL.

It was my first time there, I thought it was really cool. Hubby had to show me all the chrome he wants LOL.. that was fun.

I might have different outlook when eating at truckstop, it's not a fine dining establishment so I am not expecting a lot LOL.

The only things I like about Iowa 80 is the large parking lot, free wifi and the dentist there will save your life if you have a toothache. He's overpriced, but very good.

Boy, you ain't kidding there. I could tell you a story bout that dentist. He' ornery. My hubby put him up to it though. He had me believing that I was going to have to find a way to get my husband to an oral surgeon. :biggrin_2554::biggrin_2552: Yeah, I'm not driving that rig! :biggrin_25513: Anyway, he'd pulled the tooth and they were both just messing with me. :biggrin_2559: But I'll get him back, someday, when he least expects it. :biggrin_255:

About the restaurant, I was NOT impressed, with the food, nore the price of the food. :biggrin_2557: Now Judys, down in Jasper off 71, thats good home cooked food, and really reasonable.

We ate there in Sept 2010.
50' Salad bar Buffet?? - Maybe if they run a measuring tape back and forth and then back around again, they MIGHT get to 50'.

    We had the chicken :smt117....ehhh.

...the dude restocking the buffet looked like an ex-con out on parole...:rr:

The food certainly left something to be desired. However the waitress was hot enough to look at, that I was able to overlook the crappy food...

Haven't been at the I80 in a few years but I remember when the fuel desk was outside, the restaurant was very good and the waitresses kept the coffee cup full. Parking lot was mostly dirt, shop had one bay in it,CAT scales didn't exist and it was the truck stop in Iowa. Ordered breakfast there one morning and the waitress asked how I wanted my eggs. Without thinking I said "aw,just eliminate the eggs and I"ll have the hamburger steak and hash browns". Few minutes went by she came back and said " Sir, the cook knows fry, scramble and boil but doesn't know how to eliminate the eggs." I said that's OK just bring me the steak and taters. Hadn't thought about that in years. Not all the changes they have made are great, but it's still the I80.
