Just purchase Copilot, for the computers, the software is in the package, along with a GPS receiver. IT should run you cheaper a few hundred bucks, and a bigge rdisplay, i have copilot.... not a bad gig. It's made by ALK technologies google it.

FYI: Most new computers are 64 Bit and CoPilot Truck 11 will not run on them.

If you want free you're not gonna get your money's worth.I got Streets and Trips 2010 and it cost less the a stand alone gps.You also can't go wrong with a Motor Carrier's road atlas either..just in case you computer dies

I have no idea. It may have parameters for vehicle size, it may not. I don't know. I've never used it. I just did a search on sourceforge, which is my favorite site for free software, and there it was. That site has free versions of software that will do just about anything you can imagine.

I use a $200 Garmin Nuvi myself. I really don't want my $800 laptop, which is my main source of communication and entertainment, riding up front so every crack-head walking through the truckstop can see it. I'm also scared to death I'll drop it. It's just a lot easier for me to use a portable device. The cheap $120 Nuvis aren't so good for trucks, although they will do in most circumstances. The $180 model will let you set vehicle height, length, and width. That will keep you away from low bridges, but won't help with some restricted routes.

The bottom line is it's a tool. You can use it, but you can't rely on it, it really doesn't matter how much you spend or who made it.
