First you didn't say you weren't guilty so I'm going to say this. PUT the phone down and don't endanger an innocent person because you don't have the will power not to have the phone/tablet in your hand.
Spend the money to make it go away, you'll thank me later.

 

Watch the video while you're driving. You'll save money and can continue to not accept responsibility.

Was this a crackdown where several trucks were pulled over for the same offense? If so the police would be more likely to appear in court for the case. If you were the only one then there is a possibility that the police officer will not make the court appearance and the case will be dismissed if you have a lawyer to represent you.

You are best off fighting it; you're a PROFESSIONAL driver, and you need your professional license. Only the very worst attorney would leave you worse-off than you are. Also, consider that advice about taking the 2-hour class to reduce it to zero points MAY be incorrect; often CDL holders are not permitted to do that.

The fact that they seem eager to just give you a zero-point auction as if it was manna from heaven tells me that the case is WEAK. Also, that class will cost you money and time, so consider that as well.

Any halfway decent traffic attorney can get you to plead down to some 'nothing' charge, thought probably one with a fairly decent fine to appease the court. Figure on about a $750 hit total as being the most likely scenario.

I went through something similar many years ago while driving cab, so, yeah, it sucks, but hey, you are a professional now, and consider this an inexpensive life lesson in the long run.

Oh, and pay attention better in the future....
